According to the information, a 19-year-old boy held the hand of a minor and said I Love You. Now a special POCSO court in Mumbai has sentenced him to two years of rigorous imprisonment for saying this to a minor girl. POCSO court judge Ashwini Lokhande said that the words spoken by the accused have definitely hurt the dignity of the 14-year-old victim. In its order dated July 30, the court convicted the accused of molestation under the relevant sections of the IPC and sentenced him. However, the court acquitted the accused of the charges imposed under the very strict POCSO law.

According to the prosecution, the minor girl’s mother had lodged a complaint at the Sakinaka police station in September 2019. The complainant told the police that her daughter had gone to a nearby shop to buy some items but returned home crying. According to the complaint, on enquiry, the girl told her mother that a man followed her on the first floor of the building, held her hand and said ‘I love you’.

Claims of having a love affair
The youth had pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. During the hearing, the prosecution had questioned 4 witnesses including the victim and her mother. The accused pleaded not guilty and defended himself by claiming that he was having an affair with the victim and that he himself had called her to meet him on the day of the incident. However, the court said in its order that if the victim had an affair with the accused, she would not have told her mother about the incident out of fear.
