Yes, Korean Air has announced that from August 15, it will not serve ‘instant noodles’ to economy class passengers on long-haul flights. Yes, if you board an economy class flight of Korean Air, you will not be able to ask the air hostess for noodles. The reason behind this is said to be air turbulence. According to Korean Airlines, when Ramyeon instant noodles are served, burns often occur due to hot water. In economy class, flight attendants or air hostesses have to carry several cups of noodles filled with hot water at a time and passengers are also sitting close to each other. In such a situation, the risk of burns is high.
Decision for economy class only
The airline said that this change in the food served in flights on long-haul routes has been made due to air turbulence i.e. ‘increasing turbulence in the air’. According to the airline, the number of air turbulences in 2024 is expected to more than double compared to 2019. Korean Air said that this step is part of a ‘proactive initiative’ aimed at ‘preventing burn accidents’.
What did the company argue
The company said in its statement, “Self-service snack bars are also available on long-haul flights to give more satisfaction to passengers and diversify food options. We are committed to ensuring the safety of passengers and will choose food according to the choice of customers on every route.” These snacks include sandwiches, corn dogs, pizza and hot pockets. However, passengers traveling in Prestige and First-Class cabins will still get Ramyeon instant noodles on the plane.
