Why did the violence erupt?
Kyrgyz media reports say that this fight is related to May 13, when there was an altercation between some Egyptian medical students and some Kyrgyz students. There was a clash between the two groups and its video went viral on social media. After this, on May 16, international students were attacked. After this the situation worsened further.

After the incident on May 16, the mob started attacking foreign students, especially those from Pakistan and India. According to a WION report, an Indian national contacted the Indian embassy late Friday night and told the official that they were in dire need of help and protection.

The mob attacked the hostels of the medical university, which housed students from Bangladesh and Pakistan. According to Pakistan’s Aaj News, female students were harassed and many were injured. At least 14 Pakistani students are reported to be injured in the attacks.
