The Andhra Pradesh government has created history by hosting Mega Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) at 45,094 schools on a single day. Over 72 lakh parents have discussed their children’s prospects with 1.85 lakh teachers across the State on Saturday, said Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister Ponguru Narayana.
Attending a PTM at BVS Girls’ High School in Nawabupet in SPSR Nellore district, he said: “It is a matter of great pride that the PTMs were organised across the State at the same time. With the encouragement from both the parents and teachers, students of the government schools will thrive and improve their strengths.”
The Minister said that there were many students who were not so good in studies during the primary classes but achieved the best rank in the 10th class. “The students who get low marks should not be punished, their parents should talk to the teachers in the meetings and find out their weaknesses to take steps in laying a strong foundation,” he added.
Revealing about his academics, Mr. Narayana said, “I had passed out with grace marks in the 10th class. However, I studied diligently and received a gold medal in the post-graduation because of the teachers who instilled confidence in me. I am ready to provide my 40 years of educational experience to the State.”
He lauded the efforts of Nara Lokesh, Minister for Education and IT, in working tirelessly to develop the education system in the State. He said that steps should be taken to teach the basics in various subjects so that the foundation of every child was strong. He said that the government schools had the best qualified teachers, who could be trained as best teachers with orientation programmes.
