Tulsi legend

In ancient times, a demon named Shankhchud was married to Tulsi. Shankhachud was a demon, he became invincible due to the virtue of Tulsi’s devotion to husband. Even all the gods together were not able to kill Shankhachuda. Troubled by Shankhachur, all the gods reached Lord Shiva. Then Shiva said that as long as Tulsi remained faithful to Shankhachur, he could not be killed. To kill Shankhachud, first of all Tulsi will have to break his vow of marriage. Vishnu did this work on the instructions of Lord Shiva. Lord Vishnu broke Tulsi’s vow of marriage by deceit and Shiva killed Shankhachuda. When Tulsi came to know that Lord Vishnu had cheated him, he cursed Lord Vishnu to turn into a stone. Lord Vishnu accepted the curse of Tulsi, Shaligram is the form of Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu gave a boon to Tulsi that from now on you will be worshiped in the form of Gandaki river and Tulsi plant. Tulsi will be specially used in my puja also.
