In Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh, wife, sister and brother-in-law poured acid on the neck of a villager over a land dispute. He was held hostage and beaten for about 10 days. The victim has suffered serious injuries on his hands and legs.

The victim told that he was given injections daily to keep him alive. The victim’s second wife, through her colleagues, took him to the hospital. Shankhlal’s condition is critical.

The father of Shankhlal Agaria, resident of village Kamalpur of Jaynagar police station area, had died. After the last rites of his father, on December 01, his two sisters, brother-in-law and first wife had a dispute with Shankhlal.
It is alleged that everyone beat Shankhlal mercilessly and locked him in the room. By 12 o’clock in the night they beat up Shankhlal and poured acid on his throat. Shankhlal’s throat got burnt by acid.
Land mortgaged for Rs 25 thousand
Shankhlal told that he had mortgaged a small part of the joint account land of his father for Rs 25 thousand for his Dashagatra and Thirteenth. Since both the sisters also had a share in the land, Shankhlal’s first wife had a dispute with the sister and brother-in-law and burnt it by pouring acid.
Shankhlal told that he was kept hostage from December 1 to December 11. To keep him alive, he was given an injection every day. Shankhlal, who was seriously injured in the fight, has become unable to even walk.
The victim has injury marks on his hands and legs.
The second wife saved him and took him to the hospital.
Shankhlal somehow called his second wife Meena and informed her about her being held hostage and requested her to save her. Meena sent her acquaintances and got Shankhlal rescued and taken to Vishrampur Hospital, from where after being referred, he was admitted to District Hospital Surajpur.
Meena said that Shankhlal’s first wife had not come home for about one and a half years. After the death of her father-in-law, she has come to her in-laws’ house out of greed for land. She was among those who attacked Shankhlal.
The condition of the victim is out of danger.
District hospital doctor Dr. Harshvardhan Sharma said that Shankhlal has been referred and admitted to the district hospital. There is swelling in his hands and feet. X-ray is being done. The skin around the neck is burnt, possibly by acid. After investigation, we will be able to say clearly regarding giving the injection.
