Persons taking SIM cards in someone else’s name or sending fraudulent messages will be considered as putting cyber security at risk.

Giving more information on this news, CNBC-Awaaz’s Aseem Manchanda said that the Department of Telecommunications has started making a blacklist. From the new year onwards, names of those taking SIM in someone else’s name will be added to it. The government has kept this provision in the cyber security rules. There is a proposal to create a repository of persons in the security rules. The government will first issue a notice to such person. The person will have to reply within 7 days. The government can take action in public interest even without giving notice. People whose names will appear in this blacklist, their existing SIM cards will be blocked and they will not be able to buy any new SIM card for 6 months to 3 years.

Cyber ​​security rules have been notified in the new Telecom Act. This notification was issued in November this year. The government has added many new provisions in this. Now the government is going to take action using these cyber security rules.

The government is continuously taking steps to crack down on cyber criminals. A few days ago, instructions were issued to telecom companies to run caller-tune containing steps to prevent cyber crime to spread it among consumers. This campaign will continue for 3 months. Apart from this, the government had told in Parliament that it has blocked 6.69 lakh SIM cards and 132000 IMEI numbers till November 15, 2024 in an effort to control cyber crimes.
