The wait for the list of BJP candidates for Delhi Assembly elections may end this week. The discussion regarding ticket distribution within the party has intensified and former Union Minister, former MP and many senior officials of the Delhi unit are also in the race. BJP’s Central Election Committee will decide on the final list of candidates for 70 assembly constituencies. A senior Delhi BJP leader said, the date of the committee meeting has not been decided yet.
According to news agency PTI, party leaders said the list of shortlisted potential candidates, 3-4 per constituency, was prepared by the state election committee and the final announcement of the candidates is likely to start this week.
Who are the ticket contenders?
Party leaders claimed that the top contenders among those seeking the ticket include former Union minister Harsh Vardhan from East Delhi’s Krishna Nagar assembly constituency and Meenakshi Lekhi from Kasturba Nagar.
Former West Delhi MP Pravesh Verma has already claimed that national leaders have asked him to prepare from the New Delhi seat. This seat is held by AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal since 2013.
Former South Delhi MP and senior leader Ramesh Bidhuri is considered a top contender for the ticket from Kalkaji constituency, which is represented in the outgoing assembly by Chief Minister Atishi, who has been again fielded by the Aam Aadmi Party from the seat.
Former state president and mayor also included in the race
Many prominent officials of Delhi BJP as well as former state president and mayor are also included in this race.
Former Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay is claiming from Malviya Nagar seat. Another former Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta is seeking ticket from New Delhi seat citing his work in the assembly in the last two years.
Former North Delhi mayor Ravindra Gupta is one of the top contenders from the Sadar Bazar seat, where another former mayor Jai Prakash is also in the race. Jai Prakash lost the seat to AAP’s Som Dutt in the 2020 elections.
Delhi BJP general secretaries Vishnu Gupta and Raj Kumar Bhatia are also said to be frontrunners from different constituencies.
Presidents of fronts and cells are also in the race to get tickets.
Elections for 70 assembly seats of Delhi are to be held in February next year.

Former Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana’s son Harish Khurana is also the top contender from Moti Nagar seat along with Virendra Babbar.
The BJP, out of power in Delhi since 1998, has made every effort to win the elections and replace the AAP, which has been in power since 2013.
AAP has kept the victory chariot of BJP. BJP had got a total of three seats in 2015 and eight seats in the 2020 assembly elections.
