Ahmedabad Police has arrested two more people in connection with the parcel bomb blast in Sabarmati area on Saturday, in which two people were injured. This explosion took place on Saturday morning. This was a revenge plot hatched by Rupen Rao, a 44-year-old man who wanted revenge on his estranged wife’s family. Police have identified Rao as the mastermind behind the attack, in which Sukhadia’s father and brother along with his wife’s friend Baldev Sukhadia were targeted.
According to officials, while divorcing his wife, Rao was determined to take revenge on those whom he considered responsible for his divorce. He even contemplated using homemade bombs and firearms, which he had reportedly learned to make online, to take revenge.
A bomb exploded in a row house in Sabarmati around 10.45 am on Saturday, injuring two people. After the blast, the police immediately arrested Gaurav Gadhvi, who was found at the spot.
After this, the police conducted a thorough investigation through technical surveillance, due to which Rao and his associate Rohan Rawal were arrested on Saturday night.
DCP Bharat Rathore confirmed that Rao and Rawal had been planning the attack for several months. “Rao was learning how to make bombs and weapons through online resources for the last three to four months,” Rathod said.
“His motive was to cause harm to Sukhadiya and his in-laws, as well as to emotionally isolate his wife by creating a rift with his family,” he said.
Bombs, guns and a terrible conspiracy
Following the arrest, police recovered two live bombs from a car belonging to the suspects. The bombs, composed of sulfur powder, gunpowder and electronic circuits, appear to have been detonated remotely.
Besides this, the police also found a country-made pistol along with ammunition, which was made by Rao himself. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) defused the bombs in time, preventing further casualties.
Rathod explained in detail that the bomb was designed to cause a lot of damage. He said, “Although full forensic analysis is pending, the bombs were capable of causing fatal damage if they exploded in any vital area of the body.”
