Workers in this informal employment market can also be above 15 years of age. He is given a salary of Rs 15,000. They are told that “Whether you work or not, you will get Rs 15,000.” The reason for repeating this figure two or more times is that it creates a belief in the young mind that the money is theirs.

Furthermore, they are told that if they go somewhere for work they will be given traveling allowance and the company will bear the expenses of their food and accommodation without any enquiries. No one in the company will ask about his performance.

They will be given small tasks and if they complete their tasks then they will be made permanent. Otherwise they will be removed, although this has never happened till now. Manoj Mandal (35), resident of Jharkhand, works in a similar manner.

He goes to rural areas like Sahebganj in Bihar to identify less educated youth who need money so that they can buy mobile phones, good clothes, shoes and also enjoy some entertainment. In this way Karan Kumar (19) and his 15 year old minor brother were selected for this work.

Apart from good clothes, he was also given some training in speaking Hindi. The employees were thrilled while owner Manoj knew that the employees should be so prepared that the co-passengers do not have any kind of suspicion during the journey. Then, in the name of self-defense, they are given separate training in using weapons and are taught to use them if someone opposes them.

At this age all these activities attract them. After all levels of training, they are taken for on-job training at the railway stations of Gorakhpur and surrounding districts – like Sant Kabir Nagar, Maharajganj, Kushinagar.

There they are asked to steal people’s mobile phones from busy markets and railway stations. The stolen phones are handed over to a gang, which sends them across the border to Bangladesh and Nepal. This reduces the chances of tracking the stolen phone and catching the gang.

This self-confident gang was caught last Friday by Gorakhpur GRP SP Sandeep Kumar Meena after scanning the footage of more than 200 CCTV cameras. GRP recovered 44 Android phones worth Rs 10 lakh, a pistol and a knife from them.

If one looks at the reasons behind youth committing crimes at such a young age, one will find that the leader (in this case, kingpin Manoj) was telling everything with full confidence. He paid them full salary in the initial months without any questions and lured them to adopt a new lifestyle. And when they got used to it, they started doing whatever Manoj told them to do!

Now look at the formal job market in which you and I are. Our pay is called CTC (Cost to the Company) and there is also a variable pay, which says ‘if’ you perform 5X per cent you will get the full variable pay; This will be reduced proportionately if you perform 4X, ‘but’ a minimum of 2X variable pay is guaranteed.

Whereas these ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ should be presented only after completing the first year of formal employment. Young minds should not start their working life with struggle and should get used to the social respect that comes with formal employment.

The point is, don’t worry about how 2024 turns out. Now is the time to ensure that whatever we do in 2025, there is 100% confidence and not even 1 percent of ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ i.e. there is no conflict. This is the only way to ensure that the next generation embraces positivity with confidence.
