The next hearing on this petition related to women’s safety in the Supreme Court will be held in January.
On Monday, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court on the 12th anniversary of Nirbhaya gangrape-murder. In this, there was a demand to make the rape culprits impotent. Apart from this, 20 demands have been made including making guidelines on women’s safety and improving laws.
The bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjwal Bhuyan, while accepting the petition, said – This demand is very cruel. The court has issued notices on the petition to various ministries and departments of the central government and sought their response.
Supreme Court Women Lawyers Association (SCWLA), an organization of women lawyers, has demanded in the petition to install CCTV cameras in public buildings and places, ban online pornographic and OTT obscene content.
SCWLA president and senior lawyer Mahalakshmi Pavani said that nothing has changed from Nirbhaya to Abhaya (Kolkata’s RG Kar rape-murder victim). Women are being raped from road to home. After Nirbhaya case, laws were made strict but they were not implemented. The country does not wake up until there is a media trial in the rape case.
He has demanded the creation of an online platform like National Sex Offenders Registry. Data of criminals who commit rape should be kept in it, which all women can read. Many countries, including Russia, Poland, South Korea, Pakistan, Indonesia, Turkey and 8 US states, have enacted laws requiring castration and sterilization for sexual crimes.

Recently, a bench headed by Justice BV Nagarathna had given several instructions, including forming internal committees under the POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) Act in all government offices.
Nirbhaya case happened in 2012 On 16 December 2012, Nirbhaya was gang-raped by 6 people in Delhi. When her condition became critical, Nirbhaya was taken to Singapore for treatment on 27 December, where she died on 29 December at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore. Four out of six Nirbhaya convicts were hanged. One had committed suicide in Tihar Jail itself.
RG Kar rape case in August The body of a 31-year-old trainee doctor was found on the morning of August 9 in the seminar hall of the emergency building of RG Kar Hospital. She was on night duty. The doctor was bleeding from his private parts, eyes and mouth. His neck bone was also found broken.
