In protest against the demolition of thousands of houses in the Khori area of Faridabad district of Haryana, the families of the victims protested strongly outside the Faridabad Municipal Corporation office today citing the order of the Supreme Court and submitted a memorandum to the Municipal Corporation Commissioner demanding that he be removed soon.

On this occasion, Pappu Khan, head of Khori Jagriti Manch, said that in 2021, massive demolition was done in Khori by the Municipal Corporation, in which about 8 to 10 thousand families were uprooted, but with the order of demolition of the new Khori, the Corporation has issued orders – Along with this his old khori was also broken. According to Pappu Khan, in 2002, the Municipal Corporation ordered the demolition of Khori by calling it a forest. In return of which people got a stay from the Punjab and Haryana Supreme Court. After which this matter went to the Supreme Court.

People reached court by forming an association
The people of New Khori also formed the Residential Welfare Association and went to the Supreme Court. The case was going on since then, in 2008, the Supreme Court ordered the Faridabad Municipal Corporation not to demolish the old Khori and if demolished, then they should be settled around 6-7 kilometers, since then there has been no demolition. In 2021, the Supreme Court ordered the demolition of the new Khori, but the Faridabad Municipal Corporation demolished the old Khori along with the new Khori. Due to which thousands of families became homeless.

Pappu told that the 40 acres of land where the old Khori was settled was not a forest, but still the Municipal Corporation uprooted them from there. Now the Supreme Court has sought answers from the Faridabad Municipal Corporation as to why the old Khori were demolished in defiance of the order and if they were demolished then why they were not settled till now.
