At least eight people were killed and 18 other passengers were injured when a private bus crashed on a bridge and fell into a drain in Punjab’s Bathinda on Friday. Bathinda DC Shaukat Ahmed Parre said, “Unfortunately 8 people have died, including a 2-year-old girl – 5 of them were in Talwandi Hospital, the remaining three lost their lives in Civil Hospital, Bathinda. Of the eight people, five have been identified and three are yet to be identified.”
This accident happened when a bus carrying 50 passengers fell into a drain in Jeevan Singh Wala village while going from Sardulgarh to Bathinda. According to the officer, the bus was speeding and the driver lost control.
Former Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal expressed grief over the incident and urged the AAP government to announce ex-gratia compensation for all the victims.

He further said, “I wish speedy recovery to the 18 people who have been injured and are admitted to the civil hospital. The Aam Aadmi Party government should immediately announce compensation for all the victims.”
According to PTI report, officials said that local people immediately reached the spot to help people out of the bus. He said that the police and district administration also launched a rescue operation and took the injured to the hospital. Officials said the weather in the area was bad.
