Unicorn startups of Delhi-NCR topped in hiring, number of staff reduced in Mumbai - delhi ncr unicorns hired more employees than bengaluru and mumbai in 12 months

Unicorn startups of Delhi-NCR recruited more than other startup centers during August 2023 to August 2024. According to a report by private market intelligence platform PrivateCircle, Delhi-based firms such as Policybazaar, Blinkit and Zomato led the recruitment of unicorn startups in the National Capital Region (NCR). Unicorns are those startups whose valuation is more than $1 billion.

According to the report, unicorn startups of NCR recruited 18,554 employees during August 2023 to August 2024, which is much higher than this figure of Bengaluru. The Bengaluru-based unicorn recruited 2,384 staff in the relevant period. Mumbai, another startup hub, saw a decline of 7,024 employees in hiring, which is almost equal to Pune and Hyderabad.

Overall, unicorn startups from NCR added the most employees in the respective period, followed by unicorns from Chennai and Bengaluru. There was a decline in the number of employees in unicorn startups of Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad. One reason for this could be that big companies like Zepto have shifted their headquarters from Mumbai to Bangalore.

However, PrivateCircle’s report has not given information about the total number of employees in the three regions. This could mean that despite hiring more staff in the relevant period, the number of staff in Delhi may be less than in Bengaluru. There are a total of 117 unicorns in India, out of which 42 such companies are present in Bengaluru, 26 in Delhi-NCR belt, 25 in Mumbai (Pune and Thane). This means that the number of employees in Bengaluru is more than other locations.
