A new player has entered the politics of Punjab, whose name is Shiromani Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De). This new party is being led by pro-Khalistani leader and Khadur Sahib MP Amritpal Singh. This was formally announced today at the Maghi fair in Muktsar. The party aims to capture the Panthic sector, which was once dominated by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SD), which is now facing an existential crisis.
Amritpal Singh is currently lodged in the Central Jail in Dibrugarh, Assam under the National Security Act (NSA), while his father Tarsem Singh attended the first political conference in Muktsar. On this occasion, Sarabjit Singh Khalsa, MP from Faridkot and eldest son of Beant Singh, one of the assassins of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, was also present.
Committee of five members to run the party
A committee of five members has been formed to run the party until a new president is elected. Its members are Tarsem Singh, Sarabjit Khalsa, Amardeep Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Surjit Singh.
This committee will conduct elections for the Central Committee within the next three months and the party president will be elected on April 13. It will also prepare the outline for the party.
The party also plans to provide assistance to the families of martyrs, farmers, laborers and the working class and has pledged support to Sikhs and others across the world.
Amritpal Singh will be the president: Tarsem Singh
Making the announcement, Amritpal Singh’s father Tarsem Singh said that Amritpal Singh will serve as the president and he has also started the membership drive for the party from today.
He said, “Let us come together to save Punjab and protect the panth (community). Any person can join the party by filling the form and become a member.”
He said that the party had sent three names to the Election Commission, out of which this name has been approved.
New party will contest SGPC elections
The manifesto read out at the political conference said, “This party has been formed to meet the urgent need of a new political force in Punjab, the need of which is strongly felt. At present Punjab is facing serious crises. “
It further said, “The people of the state, especially the youth, are facing challenges like drug addiction, unemployment, poor education, corruption, moral decay, water and air pollution, lack of health care and other crises.”
The new party will prepare to contest the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) elections before contesting the assembly elections.
