CBI has arrested Nitish Sonwani, son of former chairman of Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission, Taman Singh Sonwani, in the Chhattisgarh CGPSC scam case. Along with this, former deputy exam controller Lalit Gunveer has also been arrested.

Today on Saturday, CBI presented Nitesh Sonwani and former deputy exam controller Lalit Ganveer in Raipur court. At present the hearing in the case is going on. CBI has demanded custodial remand of both.

Former chairman Taman Sonwani is in jail
Former chairman Taman Sonwani and former director of Bajrang Power, Shravan Kumar Goyal are already in jail on judicial remand in the CGPSC recruitment controversy. It is alleged that Goyal had given Rs 45 lakh from CSR fund to an NGO close to Chairman Sonwani to provide jobs to his son Shashank Goyal and daughter-in-law Bhumika. The money reached Sonwani. Action was taken after confirming this.

Allegation of selecting relatives of VIP people
According to CBI, there have been large-scale irregularities in the recruitment in PSC during Sonwani’s tenure. It is alleged that he has provided jobs to many of his close relatives and 18 relatives of Congress leaders and officials. The investigation has found strong evidence of money transactions.

It is also alleged that by taking money, children of some leaders and officials were selected on posts like Deputy Collector and DSP. According to departmental sources, apart from Toman, CBI may also arrest some more officers in the coming days.
Know about CGPSC scam
There is controversy regarding the selection of some candidates in the recruitment of CGPSC 2019 to 2022. EOW and Arjunda police have registered a case on charges of corruption and irregularities. PSC had conducted the examination for 175 posts in 2020 and for 171 posts in 2021. There is more controversy regarding these recruitments. It is alleged that the then Chairman Sonwani has provided jobs to his relatives and the children of Congress leaders and bureaucrats.
Recruitment examination was held for 171 posts
The recruitment test was conducted for 171 posts in CGPSC Exam 2021. Pre-exam was conducted on 13 February 2022. In this, 2 thousand 565 passed. After this, 509 candidates passed the mains examination held on 26, 27, 28 and 29 May 2022. After the interview, the selection list of 170 candidates was released on 11 May 2023.
