In Mahasamund district, the administration has taken major action against illegal paddy transportation and storage. So far, 10,552 quintals of paddy has been seized in the district, worth approximately Rs 2.42 crore. Also, the process of refurbishing 18 vehicles is going on.

Under the direction of Collector Vinay Langeh, the district administration has increased strict surveillance at the check post. The Collector himself is inspecting the paddy procurement centres. Sub-divisional officers, Tehsildars and Food Department teams are continuously taking action under the Mandi Act.

Action taken by confiscating illegal paddy
On January 11, 152 sacks of paddy were seized in village Basula of Basna. Apart from this, on January 13, 612 bags of illegal paddy were caught in check post Palasapali and on January 14, 350 bags of illegal paddy were caught in village Arjunada of Saraipali. At 3 am on Wednesday, 500 packets of paddy were being illegally transported from Sarasiwa to Saraipali, which was caught by the Sub-Divisional Officer of Basna in village Kotendhara.

According to the administration, an attempt was being made to bring paddy from other states and spend it in Chhattisgarh.
