Delhi Assembly Election 2025: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal claimed on Sunday (January 12) that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power in the upcoming assembly elections, it will demolish all the slums in Delhi. Former Chief Minister Kejriwal, at a press conference in Shakur Basti area, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of giving priority to land acquisition rather than the welfare of slum dwellers. He alleged that if BJP wins the elections, it will demolish all the slums of Delhi in the next five years, due to which the people living in slums will become homeless.
Taking aim at the BJP, Kejriwal said, “They want your votes first and your land after the elections.” He also criticized BJP’s ‘Where there is a slum, there is a house’ scheme and called it a sham. “In the last five years they (BJP) have constructed only 4,700 flats for slum dwellers,” the AAP national convenor said.
Former Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal also alleged that the BJP plans to take over the land occupied by slum dwellers without meeting their housing needs. The former chief minister said, “They (BJP) will demolish all the slums and acquire the land without any concern for the people living there.”
While addressing the journalists, Kejriwal said, “If there are slum dwellers then there is Kejriwal, if there are no slum dwellers then Kejriwal is nothing. Amit Shah ji, all the slum dwellers whom you have uprooted in the last 10 years, settle them on their own lands. If BJP does this then If Kejriwal does, he will not contest the elections. I have a family relationship with the slum dwellers. Whenever there is a crisis, Kejriwal will stand with them as their younger brother.”
Kejriwal was also accompanied by senior AAP leader Satyendra Jain, who is the party’s candidate from Shakur Basti constituency. Jain is contesting again from this seat for the fourth time after winning in 2013, 2015 and 2020. Let us tell you that voting will be held in Delhi on February 5 and the results will be declared on February 8.
Will BJP make Ramesh Bidhuri the CM candidate?
Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to make former MP Ramesh Bidhuri its chief ministerial candidate for the Delhi Assembly elections. However, BJP rejected it as a baseless rumour. Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused the AAP leader of spreading rumors for political gains. Addressing the ‘Jhuggi Basti Pradhan Sammelan’, Shah said, “Can Kejriwal decide the chief ministerial face of BJP? Who is he to make such claims?”
Shah also accused Kejriwal of trying to influence public perception and said the people of Delhi understand his tactics. Kejriwal claimed that he has learned from reliable sources that BJP will declare the party’s candidate from Kalkaji seat, Ramesh Bidhuri, as its chief ministerial candidate against Chief Minister Atishi in the next day or two. He challenged Bidhuri to a public debate so that Delhiites could decide who was better to lead.

BJP’s Delhi unit chief Virendra Sachdeva targeted Kejriwal and said that he himself has ambitions for the post of Chief Minister. Sachdeva said, “Kejriwal should take advice from legal experts and know that as per the conditions of the Supreme Court, he cannot even take oath as the chief minister.” He also reiterated BJP’s democratic process and said its elected MLAs will decide the party leader.
