This match is called Pink Test. Actually, since 2009, the first Test of the year played in Sydney is called Pink Test. This test is not played with pink ball but with red ball only. Pink ball is used only in day-night test. However, in the pink test, everything from the stumps to the players’ gloves, bat grip, brand logo, hoardings, caps and the attire of the spectators appears pink-pink.

Why is pink test done? The Pink Test is associated with former Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath and his wife Jane. The third day of the Test match is known as ‘Jane McGrath Day’. Jane died in 2008 due to breast cancer. After this, Pink Test started being conducted in Sydney to create awareness among people about breast cancer. This is the home ground of Glenn McGrath.

The profits from the match go to the McGrath Foundation. Whatever profit is made from this match is donated to the McGrath Foundation. Glenn and his wife Jane founded the foundation in 2005, but Jane passed away three years later. Fans wear pink clothes to support this awareness campaign. The McGrath Foundation is a charitable organization that helps breast cancer patients.
