Over the last 10 days, I met three different people who had something interesting about them. The first man belonged to India’s richest family, the second was a successful executive in the IT world and the third had recently suffered a major tragedy.

But they had one quality in common – they wake up in the morning and decide how their day should go. These are those three people. Despite all efforts, Prayagraj Airport is not becoming comfortable. At three in the afternoon, the lounge was packed. After the announcement of departure of the Delhi flight, some seats became vacant and people waiting for the Mumbai flight got the seats.

As soon as I sat down, a person came from behind and placed my luggage on the two seats next to me, so that he could save the seat for himself. He greeted politely.

While eating, he and his assistant began discussing the difficulties of air travel. I was speaking too much in this matter. Perhaps there was a sense of pride in my words that I knew more about air travel. The man gave his comfortable seat on the plane to the father of a child and sat next to me in the middle seat.

During the two-hour journey, he neither asked for additional facilities nor expressed regret at giving up the comfortable seat he had bought by paying money. He behaved politely with everyone. We continued talking and upon landing in Mumbai he accompanied me to the conveyor belt. He waited patiently for the luggage with me and accompanied me till the car parking.

In the entire conversation, he did not even once let us realize that he belonged to a family that had built the biggest business in the country. In a world where everyone boasts about their connections to big names, Dhirubhai Ambani’s younger brother, Neeraj N Ambani, son of the late Natubhai Ambani and Group President (Supply Chain), stood out.

The other was a 6 feet tall, muscular man. I was having breakfast in a hotel in Indore, when he came to the restaurant. As soon as he arrived, he showed the room key to the waiter and straight away asked for permission to come inside. When greeted by the waiter, he said thank you, while free breakfast is a right of every room guest.

I went over to him and thanked him for showing this beautiful human behavior by honoring the waiter. Then I came to know that he was Alankar Karpe, who was born in Ujjain and studied in Indore. He is now a Senior IT Professional at Wipro, Bangalore and misses the foodie culture of Indore.

Finally, I met Renu Choradia, 65, on Saturday night. She was dancing to the live performance of Shreya Ghoshal on a ground in Indore. She had lost her husband a few months ago and her daughter Purvi Jain had brought her here to keep her spirits up as Renu is a music lover. The mother and daughter danced to every song of Shreya throughout the event, even though they were far away from the stage. For him, it was not the people around him but the music that mattered.

The bottom line is that Let us wake up every morning with the desire to become a better person, rather than just a successful person. Then see how beautiful our day will become.
