This is an important moment in the history of the country’s oldest party, which has been operating from the premises at 24, Akbar Road for the last 47 years. Sonia Gandhi inaugurated the new building by cutting the ribbon. During this, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi were also present with him.

Earlier, the flag was hoisted in the courtyard of the Congress headquarters. Congress leaders sang the national song, national anthem and ‘Vijayi Vishwa Tiranga Pyara..’. Former Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi was also present at the party’s inauguration program.

On this occasion, Congress Organization General Secretary KC Venugopal, General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, members of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), permanent and special invitees, Congress Parliamentary Party officials, many party officials, Central Election Committee members, State Congress Committee. Senior leaders including heads of state governments, party legislative party leaders from various states, MPs, former chief ministers of several states and former Union ministers were present.

‘Indira Bhawan’ has been designed keeping in mind the growing needs of the party and its leaders. It includes modern facilities to support administrative, organizational and strategic functions. The work on this new headquarters of Congress was going on for the last several years. The Congress will not for the time being vacate ’24, Akbar Road’, which was the headquarters of the Congress (I) since its formation in 1978.

BJP demanded to name it after Manmohan Singh

Ahead of the inauguration of the new Congress headquarters on Wednesday, posters were seen outside the office demanding that it be named ‘Sardar Manmohan Singh Bhawan’ instead of ‘Indira Bhawan’ in honor of late former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. A video of the posters was shared by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) IT cell chief Amit Malviya, who urged the Congress to name the headquarters after Manmohan Singh. However, Congress said that the name ‘Indira Bhawan’ was already final.

In the post, Malviya wrote, “The posters put up outside the new Congress headquarters demand that it be named Sardar Manmohan Singh Bhawan as a tribute to the former Prime Minister.” Malviya further said, “Rahul Gandhi once described him as his guru. Yet he chose to travel to Vietnam for the New Year while the nation was mourning his demise. Moreover, no Congress representative would be able to collect his ashes.” Naming the building after him would be a meaningful gesture to honor his legacy and address the humiliation he endured, especially from the Gandhi family. Take a decision.”
