On the first day of the new year, the Bhupendra Patel government of Gujarat divided Banaskantha district and declared Vav-Tharad as a new district. Its headquarters will be Tharad. Now the number of districts in Gujarat has increased from 33 to 34. Along with this, 9 municipalities in Gujarat will also be made metropolitan municipalities.

8 talukas will be included in Tharad district The government has given a gift to the people of Banaskantha in the new year itself. Vav-Tharad has been declared a district. Banaskantha district currently has 14 talukas, out of which 8 talukas will now be included in Tharad district. According to sources, two new talukas can also be created along with the new district, one of which is Rah village of Tharad and the other is Garh village of Palanpur taluka.

Number of assembly seats may increase from 182 Presently the headquarters of Banaskantha is Palanpur. By declaring Vav-Tharad as a new district, it will include Vav, Bhabhar, Tharad, Dhanera, Suigam, Lakhani, Deodar and Kankrej, while Palanpur, Danta, Amirgarh, Dantiwada, Vadgam, Deesa will remain in the existing district. The delimitation will change before the 2027 elections, which may increase the number of assembly seats from 182.

9 Municipal Corporations will now become Municipal Corporation: There was a demand to create Tharad district Navsari, Vapi, Anand, Nadiad, Mahesana, Surendranagar/Wadhwaan, Morbi, Porbandar/Chhaya, Gandhidham. In comparison to the 14 talukas of Banaskantha district, the discussion of making Tharad a district by merging Tharad, Vav, Suigam, Bhabhar, Deodar and Lakhani talukas was going on for a long time.

Several new talukas and districts were created due to changes in the delimitations of the state before the last assembly elections. There was a strong feeling then that Tharad, the third town of Banaskantha, would be made a district.
