National Language Row: Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin, who recently retired shocking the cricket world and his fans, has sparked a big debate on social media after his comments on the Hindi language. His video has gone viral on social media. R. Ashwin has said that Hindi is “not our national language, but an official language.” His comment can give rise to a new debate regarding Hindi language. Ashwin made the comments at the graduation ceremony of a private engineering college in Tamil Nadu, where the use of Hindi has always been a sensitive topic.
R. Ashwin made these comments during the convocation ceremony of the private college on Thursday (January 9) when he asked the students in which language they would like to speak to him. Meanwhile, the former cricketer has said that Hindi is not the national language of the country, but only the official language.
He asked the students in which language they would like to speak to him. So some gave preference to English. After this, when he gave the option to address in Tamil, it was widely supported. But no one was ready for Hindi.
To this, the former Indian all-rounder said in Tamil, “Hindi… no reaction. I believe it (Hindi) is not our national language but the state language.” This comment can give rise to new debate at such a time. Because many opposition parties, including Tamil Nadu’s ruling DMK, have accused the Center of trying to impose Hindi in the states, especially in the South.
In the same program, Ashwin also talked about the captaincy of Team India. Here, the experienced off-spinner gave a diplomatic reply. “When someone says I can’t do it, I wake up to do it. But if they say I can, I lose interest,” Ashwin said.
