Biju Antony Aloor, widely known as Advocate BA Aloor, a criminal lawyer who often occupied the eye of legal and media storms in Kerala, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, at the age of 62. He died at Lisie Hospital in Ernakulam while undergoing treatment for kidney-related ailments, according to multiple reports. Aloor was unmarried and lived with his siblings in Thrissur.
Aloor, a native of Erumapetty in Thrissur, was known for taking up controversial and high-profile criminal defence cases that drew intense public scrutiny. Over his decades-long career, Aloor represented persons accused in some of Kerala’s most horrific crimes, including the (2011), in which a young woman was raped and murdered in a moving train. He also appeared for the accused in the Perumbavoor (2016), the alleged , the , and the , among others.
Aloor enrolled as a lawyer in 1999 after completing his legal education in Pune and practised in various courts across Kerala. Known for his courtroom theatrics and unorthodox arguments, Aloor became a fixture in the legal landscape of Kerala.
In February 2024, he was of sexually assaulting a minor and booked in a POCSO case. The girl had reportedly met Aloor along with her mother for a business loan-related discussion. The Ernakulam Central Police had registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
