Bane to underline the marginalized society- how the students of JNU have rejected the so-called progressive politics of the crushed society by making a mask, it can be easily understood by the SFI and Ambedkarite organization, Birsa-Ambedkar-Fule Student Association (BAPSA).
In this election, AISA was contesting elections in an alliance with the Left organization Democratic Student Federation (DSF) in 2013. At the same time, to challenge the AISA-DSF alliance, Chaudhary Tayyaba Ahmed was made his candidate for the post of President from SFI-BAPSA alliance.
Tayyaba is not only a follower of Muslim religion, but she is also from the deprived tribal community and is also a resident of Jammu affected by violence. In such a situation, keeping in mind his identity, the SFI-BAPSA alliance estimated that the students would stand with him.
Tayyaba does not mean not to vote at all that the students of JNU have rejected the candidates coming from the marginalized society in this election. The fact is that this time all the winners of JNU elections, Nitish, Manisha, Muntha and Vaibhav come from OBC, Dalit, Muslim and tribal background respectively.
But unlike Tayyaba, the AISA-DSF alliance did not promote its candidates as deprived-exploited nor adopted the strategy of using them as a token of idealistic progressive politics. Due to which there was a good indication among the students about the AISA-DSF alliance and the students voted in favor of the AISA-DSF alliance, cutting the torn with the SFI-BAPSA alliance.
The reason for the defeat of the SFI-BAPSA alliance can also be searched that just before the election, the Ambedkarite organization-Bapsa had two torn due to mutual factionalism on the question of the alliance with the leftist SFI. Due to which BAPSA’s committed voters did not vote for the SFI-BAPSA alliance.
At the same time, SFI’s maternal organization- CPI (M) has given a clear indication by choosing its new general secretary, Marian Alexander Baby, at the 24th Party Congress held in Tamil Nadu, that at least there is no need for the navigables from campuses like JNU for at least now CPI (M). At present there was no atmosphere of enthusiasm in the SFI’s JNU unit, as a result of which SFI did not contest the election as much as it should have fought fiercely.
