Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday, May 5, has directed several states to conduct mock drills on May 7 to test and strengthen civil defence mechanisms in the event of a hostile attack. The exercise will include air raid siren tests, civilian training, blackout protocols, camouflaging vital installations, and rehearsals of updated evacuation plans.
According to , the planned measures also include the operationalisation of air raid warning sirens, training of civilians and students on protective civil defence protocols, implementation of crash blackout procedures, and early camouflaging of critical infrastructure and installations. Additionally, evacuation plans will be updated and rehearsed to ensure swift and coordinated responses during emergencies.
As per reports, the drills will simulate various emergency scenarios such as coordinated terror strikes, chemical attacks, and evacuation operations. State disaster response units, local police, fire services, and medical teams are expected to participate in these exercises.
The move comes days after the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam which left 26 persons dead. India has accused Pakistan of the attack, but Islamabad has denied the accusation.
