Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Tuesday that communal violence in Nagpur is an already conspiracy and the mob had targeted some selected houses and establishments. Speaking in the assembly, Devendra Fadnavis said that 33 policemen, including three Deputy Commissioners of Police, were injured in the violence and a senior officer was attacked with an ax. At least 12 policemen, including three DCP (Deputy Commissioner of Police), were injured in the violence erupted in Central Nagpur.
Fadnavis said, “A group of people attacked police personnel in a planned manner with the intention of disturbing social harmony in some parts of Nagpur. 33 policemen, including three DCP, were seriously injured. Five civilians have been injured and one of them has been admitted to ICU.”
The Chief Minister also has the Home Department in Maharashtra. He said, “Any person involved in the attack on police officers, irrespective of his religious identity, will not be spared.”
Fadnavis also claimed that the crowd had weapons and had a trolley filled with stones, which was gathered with the intention of spoiling the law and order.
Curfew in Nagpur
Curfew has been imposed in many areas of Nagpur city after the violence erupted after a protest against the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb on Monday. Many houses and trains were vandalized during this period.
The Chief Minister said, “The Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal staged a protest demanding the removal of a grave. A symbolic grave was burnt and a rumor was spread that a religious message was written on it.”
Clashes took place in Chitnis Park area of Nagpur on Monday. Police were attacked with stones after a rumor of insulting a religious book during a protests by a right -wing group to demand Aurangzeb’s removal of Aurangzeb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.
