Many major claims related to Nagpur violence have now come to light. According to police FIR, the rioters in Nagpur also tried to tamper with a female officer monitoring the clashes of March 17. The FIR states that the mob also made obscene gestures and comments towards other women police officers. It said that the rioters used dangerous weapons like ax, stone and petrol bombs to attack the police and spread terror in the area.
CNN-NEWS18 quoted police FIR as saying that 500-600 unidentified people have been accused in the report along with 51 people named. According to FIR, the officer trying to control the violence was wrongly touched. The FIR also explained how the members of the police and Hindu community were abused.
The FIR states that members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) first launched a ‘movement’, later in another group movement.
Some women police officers were injured in the violence, as the protesters pelted stones at cars and two -wheelers.
What happened in Nagpur?
The news agency PTI quoted the officials as saying that the clashes began after the rumor that a holy book of a community was burnt during the movement by a right -wing organization to remove Aurangzeb’s tomb.
An official police order stated that on March 17, about 200 to 250 members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal gathered near the statue of Shivaji Maharaj in Nagpur palace in support of the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb.
The protesters raised slogans and waved a symbolic green cloth filled with cow dung.
Later, at 7.30 pm, around 80 to 100 people allegedly gathered in Bhaldarpura, causing tension and disrupted law and order.
It has been said in the order that due to this gathering, people got into trouble and the movement of people on the roads was interrupted.
A senior official told PTI, “Law and order situation in Nagpur was under control on Wednesday, but curfew continues in many sensitive areas of the city.
