Ahmedabad Plane Crash: DGCA, who will be struggling with the huge shortage of staff itself, how will the safety of air travelers - Ahmedabad Plane Crash Dgca ITSELF is Facing a Huge Shortage of Staff How will the Safety of Air Passenges

Ahmedabad plane crash :Since the Ahmedabad aircraft accident, there has been an increased concern about security in air travel. Meanwhile, the bad news is that DGCA itself is struggling with a huge shortage of staff. About half the posts are vacant. The process of recruitment is going on. But it will take time now. The challenge before Aviation Regulator DGCA is not just to monitor Aviation. Rather, there is also a shortage of staff itself. The question is that when there is no monitoring staff, then how will there be monitoring.

Statistics up to 1 July 2025 show that out of 1644 sanctioned posts in DGCA, only 821 posts are filled. A total of 823 i.e. about 50 percent of the posts are still not recruited. The most serious thing is that 540 out of 1063 posts of Group a Technical Officers are vacant. These officers have important responsibilities like checking, security audit and airline certification.

DGCA’s internal report states that the recruitment process takes 2 to 3 years. Other than this. Limited Talent Pool is also a challenge. DGCA tried to fill 79 posts through deputation but only 1 officer has joined. The reason is that DGCA cannot pay as much salary and allowances as PSUs like Aai or Pawan Pans. Currently, the recruitment process of 190 technical posts is in the final stages and 116 posts are being tried to fill the promotion and deputation. The attempt to recruit on deputation has failed.

On this issue, Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu said, “By the end of this year, our goal is to recruit 190 posts by October. We are soon in the process of filling about 90 percent of these vacancies”.

According to estimates, 2032 tax DGCA will need 900 more officers. But due to lack of right talent, it will not be easy to meet this goal. The country’s aviish is increasing, but the number of officers keeping them safe is not complete. DGCA is trying to compensate, but this speed needs to be further enhanced.
