Maruti Shield Level-2 ADAS: Maruti Suzuki is ready to start its new journey in the electric mobility sector. A source told Moneycontrol that Maruti Suzuki is going to launch its new Escudo mid-size SUV on 3 September. It will be the company’s first car in India, with Level-2 Adas (Advance Driver Assist System). Escudo will be the second mid-size SUV after Maruti’s Grand Vitara. The only difference is that the Grand Vitara meets the Nexa dealership, while the Escudo will be sold from the ARENA showroom.
Level-2 adas and new features
Models like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Curvv, Honda Elevate and MG Astor are already giving Level-2 Adas in the mid-size SUV segment.
The inclusion of Level-2 Adas feature in Escudo is a major step to strengthen the safety of its vehicles. The company is already offering safety features like 6 airbags and electronic stability controls from the base model of most of its vehicles.
Apart from Level-2 Adas, Escudo will also have Dolby Atmos Audio Technology. This feature will be given for the first time in any Maruti car. Along with this, the SUV will also get a powered tailgate feature.
Engine and drive option
According to the source, Escudo will have the same powertrain (engine setup) with Grand Vitara. Also, it will have a 4-wheel-drive option.
At the same time, the spokespersons of Maruti did not immediately respond to Escudo’s features and email seeking information related to technical specifications. Let us know that the SUV segment is increasing rapidly, that is why car manufacturers are offering more SUV models in different prices and sub-segments.
SUV segment rising demand
In the last financial year (FY25), SUV sales in India increased rapidly. A total of 23,66,274 SUVs sold, which are about 54% of the domestic market. Among them, the Mid-SUV segment stake was 6,09,516 units (25.76%). In this segment, CRETA was the best -selling SUV, which sold 1,94,871 units in FY25. This was followed by Grand Vitara (1,23,946 units) and SELTOS (72,618 units).
Maruti’s SUV range
Apart from Grand Vitara, Maruti’s SUV lineup includes Brezza, Fronx and Jimny, which are all-4 meter compact SUVs. Brezza is sold from the Arena showroom, while Fronx and Jimny Nexa are found on the showroom. Escudo will be the most advanced SUV sold from Arena.
E-Vitara’s launch delay
Along with Escudo’s entry, the launch of E-Vitara Electric SUV is also being delayed. The reason for this is the lack of rare meaning magnets. Because China has banned their export since April.
Explain that E-Vitara will be constructed in Maruti’s Gujarat plant and will be exported to more than 100 countries (eg Japan and European countries).
