Air India: Questions are constantly being raised regarding the safety of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft included in Air India’s fleet. Questions are being raised continuously since the Ahmedabad plane crash on June 14. Now the Indian Pilots Association has appealed to the Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Wrote a letter to Ram Mohan Naidu demanding temporary stoppage of flights of all Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft of Air India. The Indian Pilots Association has requested for a thorough inspection of the Dreamliner planes, especially for faults in their electricity supply.
What did the Indian Pilots Association write?
According to Hindustan Times report, the letter reads, “After the accident of AI-171 aircraft, technical faults have been observed in many aircraft of Air India. Not checking these faults in B-787 aircraft can prove to be a threat to air safety. Therefore, we request the Honorable Minister to ground all the B-787 aircraft of Air India and especially get their electricity supply checked.”
Mention of recent technical glitches
The letter mentions two recent technical glitches in Boeing 787 aircraft. The first case is of Air India flight number 117, in which Ram Air Turbine (RAT) had to be deployed before reaching Birmingham on October 4. The second case is of AI-154 flight coming from Vienna to Delhi, in which due to technical problems the plane had to be diverted towards Dubai on October 9.

At the end of the letter, three important requests have been made to the minister. “First, a thorough investigation should be conducted into the recent incidents on AI-117 and AI-154 flights. Second, all B-787 aircraft of Air India should be grounded and their electricity supply and recurring technical glitches should be thoroughly investigated. Third, a special audit of Air India should be ordered by senior officials of the Flight Safety Directorate (FSD), Department of Air Safety and Airworthiness of DGCA.”
