Congress launch MGNREGA Bachao protest : The Congress has decided to launch the ‘Save MNREGA Campaign’ from January 5 and will fight for the rollback of the ‘Viksit Bharat-ji Ram Ji Act’. This decision was taken in the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on Saturday.
After the meeting, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge told reporters that a decision was taken in the meeting that a major movement would be launched across the country with MNREGA scheme as the main issue.

Congress will launch ‘Save MNREGA Abhiyan’ from January 5. In the CWC meeting, Congress leaders vowed to protect MNREGA at any cost. Congress has said that MGNREGA is not a scheme, it is a right to work given by the Constitution of India.
The Congress president said that people are upset with the cancellation of MNREGA, the government will have to bear the consequences. Additional cost will be borne by the states. This is a unilateral decision taken without consultation. The Congress leaders have resolved to fight unitedly for the right to dignity, employment, wages and timely payment of rural labourers.
Attack on federal structure: Rahul Gandhi
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that Prime Minister Modi single-handedly scrapped it without consulting his cabinet and studying the matter. He said that this is a devastating attack by the Prime Minister on states and poor people, just like demonetisation.

Rahul said that canceling MGNREGA is an attack on the federal structure. He said that it has been appreciated all over the world. Congress leaders said that we also pledge to democratically oppose any conspiracy to delete Mahatma Gandhi’s name from MNREGA and replace workers’ rights with charity.
Parliament on December 18 approved the ‘Viksit Bharat-G Ramji Bill, 2025’ amidst uproar from the opposition. The Act has now been implemented after President Draupadi Murmu’s signature. It will replace the 20-year-old MGNREGA.
