1 January 2026 new rules

Rule Changes from Today: The new year has started today and with it many changes have come into effect. These include changes in LPG cylinder prices, implementation of the 8th Pay Commission and the deadline for PAN-Aadhaar linking. Let us tell you which changes have come into force today from January 1 and will directly affect your pocket.

LPG cylinders became more expensive

The new year has started with a hike in fuel prices, as the government has hiked the price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder by ₹111, effective from today, January 1. The increase is expected to increase the operating costs of hotels, restaurants and small businesses across the country. After this change, the price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi has now come down to ₹ 1691.50, from ₹ 1580.50 earlier. In Kolkata, prices have gone up from ₹1,684 to ₹1,795, while in Mumbai, the rate has gone up to ₹1,642.50 from ₹1,531.

The price of 14 kg domestic LPG cylinder remained unchanged, bringing some relief to domestic consumers. Domestic cooking gas prices remained between ₹850 and ₹960 in all cities.

Last date for linking PAN and Aadhaar ends

The deadline for linking PAN and Aadhaar was December 31. If you miss this deadline, many of your financial functions may come to a halt from today. Your PAN card will be considered inactive, which will directly affect tax filings, refunds, bank transactions and government schemes.

8th Pay Commission applicable

The 8th Pay Commission has come into effect from today 1 January 2026. Although it will not be reflected in your salary immediately, 50 lakh employees and 69 lakh pensioners will get the benefit after the 8th Pay Commission is approved. Basic pay is expected to increase by 20 to 35 percent, along with DA, HRA and pension.

Changes in WhatsApp and Telegram rules

You must use an active phone number for at least 90 days to use messaging apps. The web version can auto-log out every six months. These steps are taken to prevent fake accounts and online fraud.

Farmer ID required

From today, farmer ID has become mandatory to avail PM Kisan Yojana in many states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. Without Farmer ID, you will not be able to avail the benefit of ₹6,000 under PM Kisan Yojana.

Bank and FD rates have changed

From SBI, HDFC to PNB, almost all banks have changed interest rates on FDs. So if you are doing FD check the new interest rates.
