Social Media Platform X : The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued a notice to social media platform X on Friday. The ministry has expressed concern over misuse of X’s AI tool Grok, saying it is being used to create and share inappropriate content.
The ministry has said that such content is particularly targeting women and children. The Center termed it as a grave violation of dignity, privacy and digital security. The IT Ministry has written to the Chief Compliance Officer of Social Media Platform X in this regard. The Center has pointed out serious lapses in due diligence under the IT Act and IT Rules.
A report should be submitted to the government
The ministry has directed X to immediately review Grok’s technical system and governance framework, remove all illegal content from the platform, take action against guilty users and submit an action taken report to the government within 72 hours.
The government has said that if this is not done, legal action will be taken against the social media company. Pursuant to the order, X is directed to immediately remove or disable access to all material already prepared or transmitted in violation of applicable laws. This procedure is strictly ensured within the time frame prescribed in the IT Rules 2021 so that the evidence is not tampered with in any way.

The Center has said that concrete measures should be taken to stop the hosting, production, publication, transmission, sharing or uploading of content depicting obscene, nudity, objectionable and sexual activities. Earlier, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi had demanded the central government’s intervention to protect women.
