Indian Railways Premium Trains : Indian Railways runs thousands of trains every day for the comfortable travel of people across the country. Which includes mail, express, superfast and premium trains. Currently the premium category includes Rajdhani Express, Duronto Express, Shatabdi Express, Tejas Express, Gatiman Express and Vande Bharat trains.
Among them, Shatabdi, Tejas, Gatiman and Vande Bharat train services run with chair car coaches, while long distance trains like Rajdhani and Duronto usually run in sleeper and AC categories.
Train fares hiked from December 26
Indian Railway Department has increased the fares of various trains from 26 December 2025. In which the fare of non-AC coaches of mail and express trains has been increased by 2 paise per kilometer, the fare of AC category has also been increased by 2 paise per kilometer. Thus, according to the new fare, passengers traveling up to 500 km in non-AC coaches will have to pay an additional fare of Rs 10.
The increase in train fare is not applicable on local train services and monthly season tickets. There is no increase in train fare upto 215 km on general ticket.
Tejas vs Shatabdi vs Vande Bharat vs Gatiman: Train Fare Comparison
Shatabdi, Tejas, Vande Bharat and Gatiman all trains have two types of seating arrangements. AC Chair Car and Executive Class. After the recent fare hike, the basic ticket price for a journey of 1 to 50 km in an AC chair car is Rs 174 in Shatabdi Express, Rs 208 in Tejas Express, Rs 243 in Vande India and Rs 251 in Gatiman Express.

On the other hand, the base fare is Rs 388 on Shatabdi, Rs 465 on Tejas, Rs 504 on Vande Bharat and Rs 562 on Gatiman. Shatabdi Express ticket is the cheapest among these four trains. But if we talk about comfort and good facilities then traveling in Vande Bharat Express seems to be better.
