'To fight big party like BJP ... ': Akhilesh Yadav's message to opposition parties after assembly election results | India News

NEW DELHI: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said he is not disappointed with his party’s failure to win any seat in the Madhya Pradesh assembly election. The SP, which contested on 69 seats in Madhya Pradesh, could not win a single seat. Akhilesh Yadav had held rallies and campaigned for party candidates in the state.
“We are not disappointed. In politics, such results do come. Suppose, the BJP won by five lakh votes from Varanasi in Lok Sabha polls. This doesn’t mean that everyone is happy with the BJP which claims ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas’. There are still a lot of people who are disappointed and whose hopes are shattered,” Yadav said.

The SP chief expressed hope that results will be different in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. However, he had a word of advice for the parties opposing the BJP.

“The fight is big. To fight a big party like BJP we will have to make a lot of preparations. We have to be under strict discipline and have to fight the strategy with which they (BJP) are getting majority. I hope results will be different in the Lok Sabha polls,” Yadav told reporters in Varanasi.
Akhilesh Yadav had a ugly spat with the Congress during the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections over seat sharing in the state. The Samajwadi Party chief accused the grand old party of initiating discussions on seat sharing, but later going back on a deal of giving 6 seats to his party.
Akhilesh even accused the Congress of “betrayal” and dropped enough hints that the Congress would get a similar treatment in Uttar Pradesh.

With the Congress putting up a very dismal show in the state, SP general secretary Shivpal Singh Yadav said that the grand old party should take a lesson from the assembly poll results.

“The Congress should take a lesson from the election results. All of us should take a lesson from this. We all will do a review (of the results). The 2024 Lok Sabha polls should be contested after making the INDIA alliance strong,” he told reporters.
Shivpal Yadav also talked about former MP chief Minister Kamal Nath‘s “Akhilesh-Wakhilesh” comments and claimed people of the state did not like the comments.

Now, highway engineers must visit fatal accident site within 48 hours of incident | India News

FARIDABAD: The government has made it mandatory for highway engineers to visit fatal accident sites under their jurisdiction within 48 hours of any such incident. They will take corrective measures to prevent future accidents, Union road transport and highways secretary, Anurag Jain, said on Monday while adding that the ministry will also roll out “cashless treatment” for immediate medical care for victims by March next year.
“We have issued instruction to our engineer that they need to visit the site in 48 hours and will look into all the engineering aspect. Instead of waiting for 2-3 years for declaring the stretch as black spot, we have to start taking immediate corrective action. monthly analysis of data and taking corrective measures,” Jain said while addressing the Global Road Safety Initiative meet organised by Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE) and two major UN organisations, UNESCAP and UNECE, which formulate global norms.
On the cashless treatment for road crash victims, which was provisioned in the amended Motor Vehicle Act of 2019, but has been delayed, Jain said, “We are working on this and hopefully in the next three months we will be able to roll out a programme, ensuring emergency care for every road accident victim… Now we have taken a decision. While the health ministry is coming up with an overall trauma care plan, we are hopeful of rolling out our scheme before March. This scheme can be plugged into the bigger programme.”
The cashless scheme aims to provide free medical care till any crash victim stabilises.
Highlighting how India faces a different challenge than many other countries, Jain said while all along the government has been focussing more on cars and safety of four-wheelers, the number of two-wheeler occupants killed is very high and the number of pedestrians killed is also a cause of major concern. As per road transport ministry data, 44% of the total 1.68 lakh persons killed in road crashes in 2022 were two-wheeler occupants.
While flagging that road user behaviour and enforcement of traffic rules remain the key to reduce road fatalities, Jain said they have taken up with the education ministry for including road safety in the school and college curricula. “They have agreed and hopefully road safety will become the part of course curriculum. The new generation will get more sensitised,” he added.
The three-day Global Road Safety Initiative meet is deliberating upon finalising suggestive codes of practice to reduce road crash fatalities and injuries in low and middle-income countries.
Rohit Baluja, president of IRTE said that the global road safety experts will be working towards deliberating and finalising suggestive codes of safe practice, driver certification, diagnosis of road crashes through multi-disciplinary crash investigation and safety of vulnerable road users.
“The text books with road safety curriculum for classes VI to X have already been provided to the state government for necessary adoption by the schools. our effort would be to inculcate good road behaviour through awareness campaigns in schools, inbuilt road safety curriculum in the existing text books, etc. Road Safety Films, Road Safety reels are being provided for screening on television and playing on radio,” Baluja added.

BJP's victory is clear rejection of Congress, INDIA alliance: Tripura CM Manik Saha | India News

AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday said that the BJP‘s victory in three states holds significant importance ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, showcasing the clear rejection of the Congress and INDIA alliance by the people.
Speaking at a press conference held at the State BJP headquarters this afternoon, Chief Minister Saha emphasised that the BJP’s triumph in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh signifies the victory of self-reliant India, honesty, transparency, and good governance.
“During these elections, there was an attempt to divide people based on caste. The citizens of these three states have responded to Congress by voting against them. Prime Minister Narendra Modi consistently stated during the elections that there are only four castes in the country – women, youth, farmers, and people from poor sections. The strength of the nation lies in the self-reliance of these four categories,” he said.
CM Saha also expressed that people from every section of society, particularly the economically disadvantaged, consider this victory their own.
“Every new voter and individuals from backward sections aspire to contribute to building a better country through the BJP’s victory. I extend special thanks to the women. I want to assure women that the promises made for them by Prime Minister Modi are 100 percent guaranteed. The country is experiencing good governance under the leadership of PM Modi, as reflected in the results. The Tripura Pradesh BJP takes pride in this outcome,” said Dr. Saha, highlighting the significance of these results ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where people have evidently rejected the Congress and INDIA alliance.
Saha mentioned that, under PM Modi’s leadership, every deprived individual in the country is benefiting from the government’s flagship schemes.
“To further expedite this process, PM Modi has initiated the evolving Vikshit Bharat Sankalp Yatra,” added Dr. Sah.
He informed reporters that PM Modi is prioritising various initiatives and infrastructure development and has positively impacted these states during the elections.
“People have rejected Congress in this election. Once again, it has been proven that the citizens no longer want Congress. This hat trick of results is a preview of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The outcome reflects the people’s support for Modi’s anti-corruption efforts. The citizens have voted for a robust government, witnessed by people worldwide, and it is certain that we will win both seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha election in the state,” concluded Dr. Saha.
Pradesh BJP President Rajib Bhattacharya was present during the press conference.
The BJP party tsunami swept the Hindi heartland on the counting day for four states that polled for their assemblies last month. The BJP, with its stunning mandates in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, stumped not just their rivals but also some pollsters who had predicted tight races in these states.

'Passengers safety and security our priority': Jyotiraditya Scindia in Parliament | India News

NEW DELHI: Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Monday said the safety and security of air passengers was the top priority of his government.
Replying to a question in Rajya Sabha during the Question Hour on the very first day of the winter session of ParliamentScindia said his ministry takes immediate action, including imposing penalty, as and when any airline or airport is found guilty.
“Safety and security is the priority of our ministry. For security, our institute BCAS (Bureau of Civil Aviation Security) keeps a keen watch on all airports and for safety DGCA issues CAR (Civil Aviation Rule) so that the safety of the passengers is kept in mind. Whenever any airline or airport is found guilty, a penalty is imposed on them by the ministry,’ the minister said speaking in Hindi.
The Union minister was responding to a question posed by his fellow parliamentarian Kartikeya Sharma. Sharma asked whether the ministry was considering taking any step to safeguard the rights and the interests of the passengers taking into consideration some of the reported incidents when passengers were mistreated.
Sharma also asked the minister whether his ministry was looking at increasing pilot training institutes in the country. The minister, without getting into specifics, apprised the House of the mega aircraft orders placed by Indigo and Air India, and also assured of making the civil aviation sector the “backbone” of the overall transportation sector.
Speaking about the UDAN scheme, he apprised that as many as 517 routes are currently. The UDAN scheme was initiated in October 2016 to fulfil the aspirations of the common citizen, with an enhanced aviation infrastructure and air connectivity in tier II and tier III cities.
The government had approved the ‘Revival of unserved and under-served airports’ scheme for the revival and development of 100 unserved and under-served airports, helipads and water aerodromes by 2024. It is an ongoing scheme where bidding rounds are conducted occasionally to cover more destinations or stations and routes.
Later during the Question Khan, a Rajya Sabha member from the Nationalist Congress Party, Fauzia Khan, asked the minister about the operational status of Nanded airport and problems emanating in bidding for routes.
“Providing connectivity to Nanded is our priority not just because it is a prominent place in Maharashtra. The place is also important for our Sikh community. The difficulty is not on the airline side, but it is more on the airport side. The Maharashtra government had awarded this airport to a private sector entity, and it is owned by the state government…,” said Scindia.
“During the UDAN 5.0 round bidding, routes such as Nanded-Pune, Bengaluru, Nagpur, Hyderabad, Goa, Patna, and Adampur were awarded. I am in touch with the state government and our thought is such that the state government should take back the airport under its fold and run its operations. Then shall we be able to start routes in Nanded,” Scindia further said.
Meanwhile, the central government has 21 Bills on its agenda for the winter session, including the bills to replace the IPC, the Indian Evidence Act and the CrPC.
