The case was filed by Irfan Shaikh, joint secretary of Raza Academy. Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey said that a case was registered against Nupur Sharma on the night of 29 May. A case has been registered against Nupur Sharma under section 295A of IPC. Under this, he has been accused of inciting religious enmity. Apart from this, a case has been registered under section 153A on charges of increasing enmity between two groups.
