To maintain the environment better, Chhattisgarh is soon going to get a big facility in the form of Advanced Central Environment Lab. A state-of-the-art Central Environment Lab is being built here at a cost of Rs 37 crore, in which 138 advance tests of air, water and soil can be done, for which Chhattisgarh is currently dependent on other states.

At present, only general testing of air, water and soil is being done in the state. This lab will also be able to test for noise pollution, solid waste pollution, bacteriological pollution, vehicular smoke, toxicity and toxic substances passing from soil to food items.

The special thing is that government samples will not only be tested here, common people, farmers and private organizations will also be able to get tested. The Central Environment Lab will help in improving the climate of the state because it will detect all kinds of pollution immediately.

Due to careful scrutiny, compliance of environmental laws will also be done in a better way. All the districts and areas of the state will be directly connected with the monitoring system of the central lab. In this state-of-the-art lab, there will be 40 types of advanced machines worth more than 25 crores.

With which it will be possible to test more than 138 methods in the lab. In this, more than 72 tests related to water quality, more than 29 related to soil quality, more than 17 tests will be done to check air quality. Not only this, heavy metal elements dissolved in soil, air, water can also be tested in the lab.

14 types of testing of toxic substances coming out through different sources will also be possible here. At the same time, the investigation of hazardous wastes like lichette (TCLB), metal, pesticide, corrosivity, reactivity and toxicity found in soil, air and water will also be done here.

According to environmental experts, what are the environmental hazards in the state’s climate? Through the test, it will be known in time in this advanced lab. This lab will also be beneficial in terms of health. Because if the toxic elements are detected then the diagnosis can also be done immediately.

Such facilities from this lab

  • Advance check of air, water, soil right here
  • How many contaminants got dissolved, it will be known here
  • in compliance with environmental regulations
  • This will help in reducing the pollution level
  • All tests will be done privately too

so deep probe
29 types of soil tests

Testing of pesticides, leachate, metal going from soil to grain-vegetables

72 types of water tests
Testing of heavy metals, hazardous substances, grease-oil, hexavalent chromium in water

17 types of air tests
Detection of heavy metals, toxic elements and gases in the air, organic carbon etc.

Bhaskar team took stock of the work of two storey Central Environment Lab being built in Sector 19 of Nava Raipur. The work on the 1475 sqm ground floor of the lab of about 4776 sqm is fast and will be completed in two months. The entire building will be based on eco friendly and green building concept. There will be less need to turn on the lights during the day.

Most of the electricity will be related to solar energy. There will be a monitoring center for towns and villages on the ground floor. On the first floor of 1225 sqm, complete setup of advanced lab will be done. Scientists and students can do research here. The building will be ready for Rs 12 crore.

After the formation of the advanced lab, all the investigations related to the environment will be done in the state itself, which will reduce the dependence on other states. The lab will have facilities like research, experiment and study. Common people will also be able to get soil, air and water tested. -RP Tiwari, Member Secretary-Chhattisgarh Environment Protection Board
