The Election Commission of India (ECI) has given one more chance to C Hemant Soren to respond in the mining lease allotment case. He has been directed to reply on June 28. The Chief Minister had urged the commission that his lawyer was ill, so time should be given.

The Commission official said that on the request of Hemant, the Election Commission has again extended the date for hearing on June 14. The next date has been given on the condition that it will be the last opportunity for personal hearing.

If the Chief Minister or his lawyer does not appear on the next date, June 28, then action will be taken on the basis of the written reply given by him. Earlier on May 31, Hemant was to appear before the Election Commission. The Chief Minister had requested to give time citing the Rajya Sabha elections.

Considering this, the commission had given time of 14 June. Here, in the case of partner in the mining company of JMM MLA Basant Soren, there will be a hearing in the commission on Wednesday. They will present their case through advocate.

On the complaint of BJP, the Governor has sent the matter to the Commission.

The BJP had complained to Governor Ramesh Bais regarding the Chief Minister’s mining lease. Describing it as a matter of office of profit, the BJP had demanded cancellation of the membership of the Chief Minister. After this, the Governor sought the opinion of the Election Commission.

On this, the Commission had issued a notice and sought a reply from the Chief Minister by May 10. But citing mother’s illness had sought four weeks’ time. On this, the commission had asked him to reply by May 20. On May 20, Hemant Soren had sent a reply to the commission. Now the matter is to be heard.

Here, in the shell company case, the Supreme Court turned down the request of the Jharkhand government for an early hearing.

The government has challenged in the Supreme Court the decision of the High Court to consider the petition as maintainable in the shell company case. On Monday, the government urged for an early hearing in the matter in the Supreme Court. But the court turned down this request.

Said- Due to summer vacation, file this petition through the Registrar General. From the very beginning, the government is not considering the PIL filed in this case as maintainable and went to the Supreme Court regarding this. But, the Supreme Court again sent the matter to the High Court. Thereafter, the High Court accepted the petition considering the matter to be maintainable.

High Court hearing on 17

Jharkhand High Court will hear on June 17 the mining lease, investment in shell companies related to Chief Minister Hemant Soren. On June 3, the High Court, while hearing the petition on maintainability, said that the petition is maintainable. Now merit will be heard in all three cases. In fact, on May 24, the Supreme Court had asked the Jharkhand High Court to hear the matter on maintainability. After which these three petitions were heard in the Jharkhand High Court on June 3.

BJP will file rejoinder in Basant case

In the case of MLA Basant Soren, the state BJP will file a rejoinder (per reply). State BJP President Deepak Prakash has sought three weeks’ time from the Election Commission. In a letter sent to the Commission on Tuesday, Prakash has said that he has received the reply submitted by Basant Soren to the Commission on June 13. They want to file a detailed rejoinder in this matter.
