In Chandigarh, the cases of corona are increasing rapidly for the last two months, but these cases are not of the XE variant, which has created a threat in many parts of the country. Chandigarh’s Director Health Services (DHS) Dr. Suman Singh said that the screening has been increased by the Chandigarh Health Department.

Screening of all OPD patients is being done. This keeps track of the status of corona cases. Apart from this, advisory is issued by the Health Department from time to time. In this, instructions are constantly given to get masks in crowded places and maintain social distancing.

However, DHS said that it is not yet known what is causing the sudden increase in cases. In April, as the cases increased, the Chandigarh administration made it mandatory to wear masks in crowded places. There was also a warning of a fine of Rs 500. Despite this, most of the population is still not using masks.

He told that only Omicron variants are coming in the genome sequencing. So far the XE variant has not emerged in the genome sequencing. Earlier in April, cases had increased due to the spread of XE variant in many parts of the country. Since April 19, due to the increase in the corona case in the city, there is a danger of this new variant.
