Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called on Prime Minister Modi. This was his first meeting with the Prime Minister since the Shinde-led government was formed in Maharashtra. Shinde and Fadnavis called on the Prime Minister at his residence at Lok Kalyan Marg and sought his blessings and guidance for the development of Maharashtra.
Earlier, Shinde told a press conference in Delhi that he would try to understand the Prime Minister’s vision for the development of the state and take Maharashtra to new heights. Shinde said he would expedite several projects like the Samrudhi Expressway connecting Mumbai and Nagpur, metro in cities and farm ponds to promote irrigation, which were started by Fadnavis but did not work in the Uddhav Thackeray government.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had expressed confidence in flooding his tenure and winning the next elections in a coalition with the BJP. He said a decision on the expansion of the Maharashtra cabinet would be taken in Mumbai next week. Uddhav Thackeray, meanwhile, has rejected the challenge of holding a mid-term election, saying the state government is strong and has the support of 164 MLAs in the 288-member assembly, while the opposition has only 99 MLAs.
