A Maharashtra Roadways bus fell into the Narmada river on Monday morning at Khalghat in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh. It had 40 passengers on board. So far the bodies of 13 people have been recovered. The search is on for the rest. The accident happened between 10 am and 10.15 am.

The bus was going from Indore to Amalner in Maharashtra. The distance from Indore to the spot is about 90 km.

Home Minister Narottam Mishra gave two statements on the accident. First they claimed to have pulled out 15 passengers alive. However, the driver of the ambulance present at the spot said that not a single passenger was found alive. After about two hours, the Home Minister again told that only 14 to 15 people were in the bus and no one could be saved. However, how many passengers were on the bus? Locals came forward, took out the dead bodies
The local people of Khalghat were the first to help as soon as they got to know about the accident. In the photos and videos that have surfaced, local people were seen searching the dead bodies. Some people were taking out dead bodies from their boats. On the other hand, NDRF teams from Indore and Dhar have reached the spot.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan have expressed grief over the incident. The Prime Minister has announced an assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased. 50 thousand rupees will be given to the injured. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased. Being a bus from Maharashtra, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan informed Chief Minister Eknath Shinde about the incident. The Maharashtra government has announced a grant of Rs 10 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased. In this way, a total financial assistance of Rs 16-16 lakh will be given to the next of kin of the deceased.

He lost his life in the accident
12 people who lost their lives in the accident have been identified. 4 people are from Rajasthan, 1 from Indore (Madhya Pradesh) and rest from Maharashtra. The bodies have been kept in the government hospital of Dhamnod (Dhar, Madhya Pradesh).

A bridge is built on the border of two districts
The accident happened on the Agra-Mumbai (AB Road) highway. This road connects Indore to Maharashtra. The Sanjay Setu bridge from which the bus fell is built on the border of two districts- Dhar and Khargone. Half of the bridge is at Khalghat (Dhar) and half at Khaltaka (Khargone). Collector and SP from Khargone have also reached the spot.

The bus was pulled out of the Narmada river with the help of a crane.

So far not a single passenger has been found alive
The driver of the highway ambulance of Khalghat toll naka, Srikrishna Verma, said – I was on duty. Got a call from the control room at 10.03 am. It was reported that a bus from the bridge has fallen into the Narmada river. Reached the spot within 3 minutes of getting the information. The bus had fallen in the river. Immediately started the rescue operation. Not a single person, alive or injured, has been pulled from the river so far. The bus has been pulled from the river. Passengers from Indore and Jaipur, Udaipur in Rajasthan were also in the bus.

Locals found the bodies by boat and carried them to the shore.

CM Shivraj said – we could not save the people on the bus
CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that as soon as the information about this incident was received, the administration became active. Teams of Collector, SP, SDRF and NDRF immediately rushed to the rescue. The collector had reached the spot within half an hour of the accident. Took out the bus, but my heart was filled with pain saying that we could not save the people on the bus.

The driver, conductor of the bus going from Indore to Maharashtra also died.

The hotel owner said – the travelers had stopped to have tea and breakfast
Bus MH40 N-9848 is said to have stopped at a hotel on the banks of Dudhi bypass, 12 kms before Khalghat from 9 am to 9.15 am. The hotel owner told that 12-15 passengers had tea and breakfast here. The rest of the ride was sitting inside. It is not known how many rides inside, but there will be 30 to 35 rides in the bus.

The bus fell into the Narmada river after breaking this part of the bridge.

Naib Tehsildar said – no one came to claim
Amalner’s Naib Tehsildar Pankaj Kumar Jat told Bhaskar that the dead have not been identified yet. No body has come here to claim till now. We are in constant touch with the officials of Khargone and Dhar.
