A Maharashtra Roadways bus fell into the Narmada river on Monday morning at Khalghat in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh. It had 40 passengers on board. So far the bodies of 13 people have been recovered. The search is on for the rest. The accident happened between 10 am and 10.15 am.

Home Minister Narottam Mishra gave two statements on the accident. First they claimed to have pulled out 15 passengers alive. However, the driver of the ambulance present at the spot said that not a single passenger was found alive. After about two hours, the Home Minister again told that only 14 to 15 people were in the bus and no one could be saved. However, how many passengers were on the bus? A bridge is built on the border of two districts
The accident happened on the Agra-Mumbai (AB Road) highway. This road connects Indore to Maharashtra. The Sanjay Setu bridge from which the bus fell is built on the border of two districts- Dhar and Khargone. Half of the bridge is at Khalghat (Dhar) and half at Khaltaka (Khargone). Bus MH40 N-9848 is said to have stopped at a hotel on the banks of Dudhi bypass, 12 kms before Khalghat from 9 am to 9.15 am. The hotel owner told that 12-15 passengers had tea and breakfast here. Amalner’s Naib Tehsildar Pankaj Kumar Jat told Bhaskar that the dead have not been identified yet. No body has come here to claim till now. We are in constant touch with the officials of Khargone and Dhar.
