Naqvi was not nominated by the BJP in the recent biennial Rajya Sabha elections. RCP Singh was a minister in the central government from the Janata Dal United quota. He too has not been given the next term by the JDU. Singh took charge of the steel ministry. Naqvi was the Union Minister for Minority Affairs. He is the BJP’s deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha. It is believed that the party could give them a bigger responsibility.
Rampur won from Lok Sabha seat, lost twice
Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi is a resident of Prayagraj. However, he has made Rampur his political constituency. Rampur is the only Lok Sabha seat in the state where the Muslim electorate is over 50 per cent. Naqvi is always active in this seat. Naqvi also won the Lok Sabha election from this hot seat in 1998, although he has lost twice since.
