The AAP had on Saturday declared three more candidates for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections, but did not declare the constituency for Isudan Gadhvi.
With the 15th list, which was released on Saturday, the Aam Aadmi Party has so far declared the names of 176 candidates for the elections to the 182-member Assembly.
AAP had on November 4 declared the 40-year-old former journalist Mr Gadhvi its Chief Ministerial candidate based on a survey.
He recently promised action against “top people, and not just some security guards” for the bridge collapse in Morbi on October 30 that killed 135 people.
“I went to the hospital there and saw the body of a 12-year-old girl. I was shaken. There were eight bodies of members of one family,” he told NDTV just after he was declared the party’s face for the December elections.
He also promised stricter action in the case of fire at a coaching institute in Surat two years ago and the death of over 70 people after drinking hooch in what is otherwise a dry state.
Gujarat votes in two phases on December 1 and 5. The counting of votes will be taken up on December 8.

It’s a key moment for India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in three key sessions — food and energy security, digital transformation and health — at the G20 summit in Bali, for which the PM will leave for tomorrow.
He will be on a three-day visit to attend the summit that is expected to deliberate extensively on pressing global challenges including the Ukraine conflict and its implications. Indonesian President Joko Widodo, who is hosting the 17th summit, will symbolically hand over the G20 presidency to Modi during the closing session. Formally, India will take over the presidency starting December 1 and host the 18th summit in September 2023.
Ahead of the summit, speculation is high on what bilateral meetings could take place between India and other nations – China, UK and US. More debate is on what these meetings, and India’s prestigious presidency will yield in a world divided.
Modi’s Meetings With Xi, Sunak, Biden?
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on Friday said US President Joe Biden is looking forward to seeing Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G20 summit. Eyes are also on whether the PM might hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese Xi Jinping. If this happens, this will be the first after the military stand-off along the LAC that started in April-May 2020.

Whether Modi could meet Rishi Sunak, the recently elected Hindu Prime Minister of the UK at the summit also remains to be seen.
India has stated meanwhile, that Modi’s visit, though short, will be very important. “The participation of the Prime Minister of India in this summit is also important in such a way that on the day before the appointment, the Prime Minister has launched the logo of our presidency and website, this is a very good opportunity to show our presidency in front of all the leaders of the world. Tell them about the success stories of India,” said the Indian envoy in Bali during an interview.
Driving Global Agenda at the G20
India’s foreign policy has evolved to take on leadership roles on the global stage. In a significant step forward, India will assume the G20 presidency on December 1, 2022.
PM Modi’s G20 logo is inspired by the vibrant colours of India’s national flag: saffron, white and green, and blue. According to an official statement, it contrasts planet Earth with the lotus, India’s national flower that represents growth in the face of adversity.
On December 1, India will take over the presidency of the powerful grouping from current chair Indonesia.
“Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” or “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” is the theme of India’s G20 presidency. In that context, PM Modi will position India as a driving force of unity, highlighting a difficult road ahead as the country seeks to balance competing global powers, amid the Ukraine-Russia conflict. India has so far espoused the importance of peaceful dialogue to resolution of the conflict, while remaining equidistant from the West and East – and putting its interest first.
The G20 & Tasks Ahead for India
The Group of Twenty, also known as the G20, is an intergovernmental forum of the world’s major developed and developing economies. India, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union are among them. The G20 is the forum for international economic cooperation, representing roughly 85% of global GDP, more than 75% of global trade, and roughly two-thirds of the global population.
India faces significant challenges as it assumes the G20 presidency, a report by India Today explains. India’s G20 priorities include, among other things, inclusive, equitable, and sustainable growth, women’s empowerment, digital public infrastructure and tech-enabled development, climate financing, global food security, and energy security.
India will assuming the G20 Presidency this year. Sharing my remarks at the launch of G20 website, theme and logo. https://t.co/mqJF4JkgMK
The G20’s credibility has suffered in recent months. It is on the verge of a crisis because an internal schism is all too visible. The West and Russia have refused to see eye to eye; they were even reluctant to sit down and discuss issues during the buildup. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has announced that he will not attend the summit.
As India assumes the presidency, it has to work out differences and lead from the front. “Assuming the G-20 presidency at such a critical juncture is a challenging task,” India’s G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant wrote in an Economic Times column. “However, India is well-prepared to turn this challenge into an opportunity.” He went on to say that India will use its presidency to focus on climate action, energy security, stronger public health systems, and accelerating the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the G20 Summit from November 14 to 16 in Indonesia’s Bali as India prepares to assume the group’s presidency from December 1, 2022. Underscoring the importance of India’s participation this year, Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Manoj Kumar Bharti said that PM Modi’s visit may be short but will be “very important”. This is because PM Modi will be formally taking over India’s G20 chairmanship for 2023. “PM Modi’s coming to G20 is important because India is about to take the G20 Presidency from Indonesia, as far as Indonesia’s Presidency is concerned, India has continuously provided help to Indonesia, and the Indonesian government recognizes India’s cooperation too,” said the Indian envoy. Guided by the vision of the Prime Minister, the foreign policy of India has been evolving to undertake leadership roles on the global stage. The G20 logo launched by PM Modi draws inspiration from the vibrant colours of India’s national flag – saffron, white and green, and blue. It juxtaposes planet Earth with the lotus, India’s national flower that reflects growth amid challenges, said an official statement. Unity theme The theme of India’s G20 Presidency is “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” or “One Earth One Family One Future”. In that context, PM Modi will be positioning India as a driving force of unity, underscoring a tricky road ahead as the nation seeks to balance between competing global powers.
Watch: PM Modi unveils logo, theme and website of India’s G20 presidency
Earlier, the Prime Minister noted that India’s G20 presidency is coming at a time of crisis and chaos in the world, referring the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He added that India’s logo for the summit would be the lotus as a symbol of hope. “No matter how adverse the circumstances, the lotus still blooms.” However, India is caught in a delicate balancing act with global powers since the war in Ukraine broke out and this will get amplified when it takes over the presidency. The US and its allies have so far largely avoided pressuring New Delhi over its close ties with Russia, a key supplier of weapons and energy. And India is trying to draw closer to the US and the Quad, a grouping that includes Japan and Australia, as it stands up against China militarily and economically. “Assuming the G-20 presidency at such a critical juncture is a challenging task at hand,” India’s G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant wrote in a column in the Economic Times. “But India is well prepared to transform this challenge into an opportunity.” India will use the presidency to focus on climate action, energy security, stronger public health systems and the accelerate the 2030 sustainable development goals, he added. G20 agenda During the G20 summit this year, India will raise the issues of renewable energy and the digital revolution. “India taking forward the main points of Indonesia’s policy presidency, which are related to food and renewable energy security, health and digital transformation. However, it will also be a very good and appropriate occasion for our prime minister to tell the world leaders about the main theme of India’s presidency,” ambassador Manoj Bharti told ANI. Bharti also said that PM Modi will hold bilateral meetings with world leaders on the speculation in the diplomatic arena that he is likely to meet Britain’s new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at the summit. However, there is no confirmation from Indian side as of now. The Prime Minister will also address and interact with the Indian community in Bali. (With inputs from agencies)
Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari during a rally in Srinagar
Srinagar:
The first large political rally in Srinagar after Jammu and Kashmir was stripped of its statehood and special status had a message for Prime Minister Narendra Modi: restore statehood and hold elections without any further delay.
At Srinagar’s Sher-e- Kashmir International Cricket Stadium, thousands attended a rally organised by Jammu and Kashmir Apni party this morning. The chief of the party, Altaf Bukahri, said such a large gathering wants Prime Minister to fulfil the promise that he made to the people.
“All these people have come here with a demand that Prime minister should restore our state. Mr Prime Minister, this is your promise and also a promise made by the Home Minister – kindly restore the statehood of J&K as it existed on august 5, 2019,” said Mr Bukahri.
Apni Party was formed with the tacit backing of the central government following the revocation of Article 370 when all senior leaders of regional parties were in jail. Since then, political activities by regional parties have been badly affected.
Apni Party, which is often dismissed as the ‘B-team of BJP’ in Kashmir by the regional parties, said the large gathering is a message to their rivals in Kashmir and also powers in Delhi.
The party had made massive mobilisation across the Valley and was expecting around 50,000 people at the rally. Even though the number of people who turned up at the venue was far less than the expected number, it was still the largest public meeting by any party in Kashmir since August 2019.
Following the abrogation of special status on August 5,2019, a massive clampdown, prolonged restrictions, communication blockade, and detention of thousands of people and political leaders had frozen politics in Kashmir.
The formation of Apni Party was to revive political activities and create an alternative to the traditional parties like the National Conference and the PDP.
In his address, Mr Bukhari strongly spoke against the violence in Kashmir where thousands have been killed over the last 30 years of the separatist movement. He told the gathering that they should accept that their destiny lies with India and they should not allow themselves to be misled by anybody.
“We all have to accept that J&K’s destiny lies with India. We suffered due to India but it’s India alone that can apply a balm. So, my appeal to all of you is please don’t allow yourself to be misled by hollow slogans by some leaders” said Mr Bukhari.
Jammu and Kashmir is without an elected government for more than four years. During his recent visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Home Minister Amit Shah announced that elections will be held after the revision of electoral rolls – which will be completed this month.
So ahead of possible assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Mr Bukahari also announced freebies if his party is elected to power.
He promised 500 units of free electricity; four refills of LPG cylinders to every household. Rs 5000 old age pension and Rs one lakh marriage assistance.

Napoli set a club record of 11 consecutive Serie A victories in a season as they got a 3-2 win over Udinese
Napoli almost squandered the chance of setting a club record of 11 consecutive Serie A victories within a season when they let slip a three-goal advantage before securing a 3-2 home win over Udinese on Saturday.
Victor Osimhen put the league leaders ahead after 15 minutes when he elegantly headed home a cross from Elif Elmas.
Piotr Zielinski doubled the lead in the 31st minute with a shot from the edge of the box after being played in by Hirving Lozano.
The hosts continued to press in the second half and Elmas was set free by Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa in the 58th minute to add the third.
Udinese reduced the deficit 11 minutes from time when Isaac Success chested the ball to Ilija Nestorovski who fired the ball into the net.
Lazar Samardzic pulled another goal back three minutes later and Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti cut a frustrated figure as his side held firm in the closing stages to secure the victory.
Napoli top the standings with 41 points, 11 ahead of Lazio who play Juventus on Sunday before the World Cup break. Udinese are in eighth place.
Mick Schumacher will be out of contract with Haas after F1’s season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
Team boss Gunther Steiner said Saturday that Haas will announce their decision on the future of Mick Schumacher next week.
The 23-year-old son of seven-time champion Michael will be out of contract with Haas after next week’s season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
He has struggled for consistency this year and on Friday qualified 20th and last at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix while team-mate Kevin Magnussen claimed his and the team’s maiden pole position in Saturday’s sprint race.
“You can expect the announcement some time next week,” said Steiner. “I’m not telling you which day because then everyone will be waiting – it will be next week.”
German Schumacher has scored 12 points to Magnussen’s 24 this year, but has suffered inconsistency, leading to a prolonged speculation over his future with the American-owned team.
Experienced fellow-German Nico Hulkenberg is expected to leave his post as test and reserve driver at Aston Martin to succeed him – and Aston Martin this week confirmed they were recruiting Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne as a reserve for 2023.
Steiner said he had some sympathy for Schumacher.
“I felt almost sorry for him,” he said. “The first two runs were very good and then with the dry tyres he couldn’t get the feeling. He lost a bit of (tyre) temperature when a couple of people overtook him and then he lost a bit of confidence.
“It reflected his year, he’s had some good moments and he’s had some bad ones.”
Bengal Warriors defeated Gujarat Giants 46-27 in the Pro Kabaddi League
Maninder Singh (12 points) and Shrikant Jadhav (10 points) helped Bengal Warriors put up an inspiring performance to defeat Gujarat Giants 46-27 in the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 9 at the Shree Shivchhatrapati Sports Complex on Saturday.
The Bengal Warriors and Gujarat Giants played out a neck-and-neck contest in the opening minutes of the match and were locked at 6-6 in the 8th minute.
However, Sakthivel R. pulled off a couple of tackle points and helped the Warriors inch ahead at 9-8 in the 11th minute. Deepak Hooda also joined the party as the Bengal side continued to hold the lead at 11-9.
But, captain Chandran Ranjit didn’t take his foot off the pedal and kept the Giants in the game. Rakesh also stepped up his game as the Giants stole the lead at 15-14 just before half-time.
The Giants rode on the momentum and reduced the Warriors to two players on the mat in the opening minutes of the second half.
But Rakesh missed a raid, which allowed Maninder Singh to come back on the mat and help the Warriors take the lead at 20-18 in the 25th minute. Maninder effected a multi-point raid in the 29th minute and helped his team inflict an All-Out and take a massive lead at 27-20.
Jadhav backed up Maninder with a couple of raids as the Warriors attained a stronghold of the match at 35-23 in the 35th minute. Bengal inflicted another All-Out in the 39th minute and extended their lead even further. The Warriors kept raging on and eventually walked off the mat as winners of the match.
Disgruntled leaders said they will make their next move after consulting supporters. (Representational)
Ahmedabad:
At least one sitting Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs and four former legislators have threatened to contest as independents after they were denied tickets by the party for the two-phase Gujarat Assembly elections to be held on December 1 and 5.
While some of these disgruntled leaders have said they will make their next move after consulting supporters, former BJP MLA and a known tribal face of the party, Harshad Vasava, has already filed his nomination papers on Friday as an independent from Nandod (Scheduled Tribe reserved) seat.
Notably, Harshad Vasava is the president of Gujarat BJP’s Scheduled Tribe Morcha and had represented the erstwhile Rajpipla seat between 2002 and 2007 and from 2007 to 2012.
Nandod in the Narmada district is currently held by Congress. The BJP has fielded Dr Darshana Deshmukh from the seat.
Unhappy over the announcement, Harshad Vasava resigned from his post in the BJP and submitted his nomination papers for the Nandod seat on Friday.
“There is an original BJP and a duplicate BJP here. We will expose those who have sidelined committed workers and given key posts to newcomers. I have sent my resignation to the party. People of this area know how much work I have done as an MLA between 2002 and 2012,” Vasava told reporters after filing his nomination as an independent.
In the neighbouring Vadodara district, one sitting and two former BJP MLAs are up in arms against the party after being denied tickets.
Six-time MLA Madhu Shrivastav from Vaghodia, who was denied a ticket, has said he will contest as an independent if his supporters wanted him to. The BJP has fielded Ashwin Patel from the seat.
Another former BJP MLA Dinesh Patel aka Dinu Mama of Padra seat in Vadodara district has also said he would contest polls independently. The BJP has given the ticket to Chaitanyasinh Zala. The seat is held by Congress.
In Karjan, former BJP MLA Satish Patel is unhappy after the BJP decided to repeat sitting legislator Akshay Patel.
Akshay Patel had won on Congress ticket from the seat in 2017, but then joined the BJP in 2020 and won a subsequent bypoll.
“Everyone knows what Akshay Patel did as an MLA. My supporters and cooperative sector leaders of Karjan have asked me to fight this election, even as an independent. I was not consulted before the party decided to give the ticket to Akshay Patel,” Satish Patel told reporters in Karjan.
“In fact, 80 per cent of the workers and office-bearers of the BJP had recommended my name during the ‘sense’ exercise. But, I was rejected in the end. We would have accepted any other person as a candidate, but BJP workers and local leaders can never accept Akshay Patel,” he claimed.
In a damage control exercise, state BJP general secretary Bhargav Bhatt and Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi on Saturday visited Vadodara and met local party workers. Bhatt exuded confidence that the BJP will win all the seats of Vadodara.
“We will convince Dinu Mama not to go ahead with his plans. There is still scope. He has always remained with BJP and we are sure he will come back. He has yet not filed his nomination as an independent,” said Bhatt.
Speaking on the issue, Mr Sanghavi said, “the BJP is like a family and all members of this family are united. We all are one and BJP will win the election with the support of the people.” Meanwhile, Arvind Ladani, former BJP MLA of Keshod seat of Junagadh, announced on Saturday that he would fight the polls as an independent after the party gave a ticket to current MLA Devabhai Malam.
“People of Keshod are angry because I was denied a ticket by the BJP. People know how much work I have done for Keshod. Thus, people as well as my supporters have asked me to fight as an independent. I will file my nomination on November 14,” said Mr Ladani, who was MLA from 2012 to 2017. The BJP has so far named candidates for 166 Assembly segments of the total 182.
