The Supreme Court refused to stop the bulldozer proceedings in the states
The Supreme Court had refused to pass an interim order to stop bulldozer operations on properties of people involved in violent protests in states. The Supreme Court said, if there is an illegal construction, the corporation or municipality is authorized to take action against it, then how can we pass an order against the demolition of that illegal construction.
A bench of Justices BR Gavai and PS Narasimha said, “No one can dispute whether the rule of law should be followed or not, but can we pass a blanket order?” If we pass such an order, will we be deemed to be preventing the authorized department from proceeding in accordance with law?
The bench was hearing petitions of Jamiat Ulma-e-Hind, a Muslim organization, seeking directions to the governments of Uttar Pradesh and other states not to damage the property of the accused. The bench asked all the parties to complete the arguments. He also said that he would hear the petition of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind against the demolition on August 10.
