Electricity rates have increased in Chandigarh. The initial slab of 0 to 150 units of electricity has been hiked by 25 paise per unit. This increase has been done in the initial slab by the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC). In fact, a petition was filed on behalf of the Chandigarh Engineering Department before the commission in the matter. Hearing on which this increase has taken place. Earlier, where Rs 2.50 per unit had to be paid for per unit in this initial slab, now Rs 2.75 per unit will have to be paid. There is no increase in the rest of the slabs. On the other hand, the fixed charges of electricity meter has also increased by Rs. JERC had earlier held a meeting on May 13 on the issue of electricity.

On the other hand, those who use less electricity in the commercial category will get the benefit. In this, the rate has been reduced from Rs 4.70 per unit to Rs 4.50 on 0 to 150 units. There is no change in the rest of the categories. At the same time, according to the information, the Chandigarh Administration will get a benefit of Rs 274.12 crore from this increase. There will be an additional benefit of about Rs 21 crore from the new rate.

On the one hand, in the domestic use of electricity, the per unit has increased to Rs 2.75 in the slab of 0-150. Whereas in commercial it has come down to Rs 4.50 per unit. At the same time, for domestic use between 151 to 400 units, it is Rs 4.25 per unit and for more than 400 units, it is Rs 4.65 per unit. Similarly, in commercial 151 to 400 units per unit is Rs 4.70 per unit and above 400 units is Rs 5 per unit.
