Consider extra marks to IITian for constable's job: Punjab and Haryana HC to HSSC | Chandigarh News

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court has directed the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) to consider giving additional marks to an IIT postgraduate for his appointment as constable in Haryana police.
While the candidate’s result had been announced before the last date for applying, he had not been not able to upload his detailed marks sheet.
Justice Jaishree Thakur of the HC has passed these orders while disposing of a petition filed by Mohit Kadian, a resident of Jhajjar district of Haryana.
The petitioner, who had applied for the post of male constable (General Duty) under the economically weaker section (EWS) category had sought grant of additional marks for having a postgraduate degree from the Indian Institute of TechnologyRopar, for appointment to the post advertised by the Haryana government in December 2020.
Counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that Kadian would come into the zone of consideration if the HSSC would take his degree into account.
The petitioner relied on the orders passed by the HC in “Rahul Kumar Versus State of Haryana” and another in February 2019, wherein the court had directed the HSSC to consider the case of the petitioner
It was submitted that his mark sheet is dated August 13, 2020, which is before the cutoff date of February 10, 2021, for applying for the job. “In view of the above position, the present petition is disposed of with a direction to the respondents that in case the result of the petitioner has been announced before the cut-off date i.e. February 10, 2021, the commission shall give him marks for his postgraduate degree, as per the criteria laid down in the advertisement dated December 30, 2020, for the post,” ordered the HC.
