A general meeting of the municipality was held. In which development works were discussed. It was submitted by the opposition that some government offices located in the area of the municipal corporation were due. In some offices in urban areas, taxes have not been paid for more than 10 years. Due to which the municipality has lost an income of more than 2 crores. There was a demand that action should be taken by the municipality in all the government offices at the earliest.
If the arrears are collected, an income of 2 crores can be made
Municipal council member Girishbhai Desai made a presentation in the general meeting of the municipality today due to the pending taxes of lakhs of rupees of the government offices located in Valsad. He also said that if the taxes due in these government offices are recovered at the earliest opportunity, the municipality can get an income of more than 2 crores. And the taxes due for years were demanded to be repaid immediately. Along with this, many government offices including Valsad Police Head Quarter, Railway Yard and City Police Line as well as Valsad Railway Office, Valsad Railway Police Station have not been paid taxes for years. So the process of tax collection should be started speedily and the money should be deposited in the municipality.
Tax arrears of railway department after the year 1983
In Valsad Nagar Palika area, Railway Station and East and West Yard, the largest area, has been acquired by the Railway Department. Since the railway department has not paid a single rupee after paying the tax to the municipality in 1983, the railway department owes a tax of lakhs of rupees to the municipality. Ramanbhai Rathod, engineer of Nagar Palika, said that when the municipality sends a notice every year, since the water and drainage lines are our own, we do not have to pay money to the municipality, and the tax is not reimbursed by the railway department.
