24-year-old Rituraj Bhanukumar Parmar joins the Judge Advocate General (JAG) branch of the Indian Army as a lieutenant in Vallabh Vidyanagar, where Gujaratis are underrepresented in the Indian Army. He was commissioned in the presence of his parents at the Army’s Officers Training Academy, Chennai on Saturday.

Rituraj achieved this feat by coming out of the five-day process of the Service Selection Board, which is considered one of the toughest examinations in the country, and ranked among the top five male candidates in the country. Army advertises only five to ten candidates for Jag branch every year.

After a rigorous screening process out of about 2,500 to 3,000 candidates, five to ten candidates are finally selected. The Jag Branch of the Army looks after and safeguards all legal matters relating to the Army.

The toughest interview of five days
The Indian Army invites applications from post-graduate youth between 21 and 27 years of age for Short Service Commission for five to ten posts every year. Interview is in two stages. In which intensive test and interview are held in stage two after primary screening. In which many tests are conducted for IQ, EQ, Psychological, Mental, Physical, Initiative, Group, Action etc. Along with this personal-group interview is conducted. After screening 2,500 to 3,000 candidates, 5 male candidates are selected.

Motivational move for Gujaratis: Rituraj
Bhaskar spoke to Rituraj Parmar on Saturday after the commissioning in Chennai. In which he said, I cannot talk about our training being very confidential. My officers have seen the selection of a Gujarati in this service as a magnanimous move. The Judge Advocate General Branch of the Army is also an opportunity for those who wish to join the Army after completing their law education. This department looks after all the legal aspects of the Army.
