The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has stopped water supply to the Raska project for the last four days following the suspicion that chemicals have been poured into the Shedhi Canal, which supplies water to the eastern half of Ahmedabad. Water samples have been taken by AMC and GPCB after it was reported that there are chemicals in the water in Shedhi Canal. Police and GPCB have reached the spot amid rumors that chemicals have been dumped in a canal near Matar in Kheda district.
An official report has not been released
Deputy Municipal Commissioner Ramesh Merja did not receive a phone call when contacted. According to information from reliable sources, the presence of chemicals in the water sample has been revealed. However, this report has not been officially released. In the report of Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) it is green and because of this the color of the water has changed. Police and GPCB have reached the spot amid rumors that chemicals have been dumped in a canal near Matar in Kheda district. Till Tuesday, East Ahmedabad is being supplied with water from Kotarpur Water Walkers.
AMC and GPCB took samples
Water Supply Committee Chairman Jatin Patel said, following the suspicion of chemical-tainted water in the sugarcane canal, samples were taken by the Municipal Corporation and GPCB. In which it has been revealed that the report of GPCB is green. Following the suspicion of chemical presence, the water of Shedhi Canal was immediately stopped. Water is being supplied from Kotarpur Water Works in place of Raska till Tuesday.
For now, water will be supplied from Kotarpur Water Works instead of Raska
AMC immediately closed the water gates of Shedhi Canal to prevent Ahmedabadites from drinking chemically contaminated water. At the Raska project, water is filtered and supplied to East Ahmedabad. But as a precautionary measure, water is being supplied from Kotarpur Water Workers instead of Raska to prevent more than 10 lakh people of Ahmedabad from getting chemical water. Due to the closure of the Raska project to the citizens of the east, water will be supplied from the Kotarpur Water Works, resulting in less water supply. But the citizens will not have to face any kind of problem they are saying BJP authorities and officials.
The Raska project was shelved
It has been officially stated by the Municipal Corporation Water Production Department that the Raska project supplying water to the southern and eastern areas of the city has been shut down due to dirty and spilled water in the raw water of the water plant supplied to the city of Ahmedabad from the Shedhi Canal.
